Canada.com News: Alberta News Roundup: Falun Gong Protests Human Rights Abuse
Sunday, September 11, 2005 Falun Gong practitioners staged a mock torture in Edmonton
Saturday to highlight human rights abuses in China as the country's president
visits Canada. Among
the demonstrators outside the Old Strathcona Farmers' Market was Wenyu Liu, who
spent nearly three years in a Chinese jail. Liu,
who now studies mechanical engineering at the University of Calgary, says the
mental torture he endured was worse than the physical abuse. He says
at one point he spent eight months in solitary confinement, deprived of all
human contact.
