A Young Woman Finds Falun Dafa in Prison

This story happened in the summer of 2000 when the persecution of practitioners was rampant. After being illegally arrested twice, I was put in jail again. In the beginning I was put in a small room where they jailed newcomers. Because of my refusal to cooperate and my attempts to tell people about Falun Dafa in the jail, after 15 days the guards put me in the contagious disease area to punish me.

Only two people were in the contagious disease area. One was a young woman about the same age as me. The other was an older woman. The first night I was there, as soon as I crossed my legs to do the seated meditation exercise, they pulled my legs out of position and, due to having been deceived by the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) propaganda, they tried to convince me that I should not practice. The next day, I got up early in the morning to do the exercises again. The young woman came to me, I heard her stop in front of me, and then leave without saying a word.

We sat together and talked at noon. While I was trying to think of a way to bring up Falun Dafa, she brought it up first and said, "You can do the exercises if you want to. I will not stop you in the future. After you came, I slept very well and did not have nightmares anymore." I said, "Do you usually have a lot of nightmares?"

She said, "Yes. Before you came, I dreamt of ghosts chasing me and trying to kill me every night. Yesterday I did not have a nightmare. Instead, I dreamt that I was flying and I saw a respectable monk asking me to go along with him."

Hearing this, I knew that it was a hint for her to learn Falun Dafa. I was delighted and said to her, "Congratulations. This dream was an invitation for you to learn Falun Dafa. Why don't you learn Falun Gong as soon as you can. Teacher is giving you a hint."

After pausing for a little while, she said, "Okay. I will start to learn it." I began to tell her what practitioners are all about and how to cultivate in Falun Gong. I also explained why the CCP tells lies about Falun Gong and why we were being persecuted.

After hearing my explanations, she said in surprise, "Really? Falun Gong is so wonderful. You guys are truly something." She admired us for our persistence in going to appeal and telling the facts to people, and also the fact that we always face the persecution with benevolence, instead of hatred or despair. Then I wrote down "On Buddha Law" for her from memory. That night she began to memorize it, skipping her chance to watch television.

On the third day, she told me when she got up, "I had a dream. I dreamt that I had a test. Looking at the test paper I knew nothing. My sister tried to help me, but it wouldn't do. The teacher said to me, 'You have to learn it. You have to cultivate.' I asked the teacher, 'What do I learn?' The teacher said, 'You need to learn Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance. You have to cultivate.' Then I woke up."

I told her, "Teacher was trying to give you hints. Falun Gong is Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. Teacher is taking care of you now." Then I tried to recite for her the lectures in Zhuan Falun from my memory, while trying my best to adhere to Teacher's words. I also told her, this way of learning Dafa is acceptable only under unusual circumstances and that after she gets out of jail, she should find a copy of Zhuan Falun and study it for herself. I continued to write down some articles from my memory for her, including "Expounding on the Fa," "Towards Consummation," "Wealth with Virtue" and "True Cultivation." I wanted to pass on as much as I could remember as I did not know how long we would be together. This way, with Teacher's care and guidance, I felt that her mental state was elevating every day and making great strides.

On the tenth day, when I finished writing down all the articles that I had memorized and taught her all five exercises, I was transferred away.
