Council of Europe Condemns Crimes of Communist Regimes

(Clearwisdom.net) On January 25, 2006, representatives from 46 European Member Nations of the Council of Europe Parliament discussed and passed a resolution entitled "Need for International Condemnation of the Crimes of Totalitarian Communist Regimes" in Strasburg, France, where the headquarters of the Council of Europe Parliament is based.

Swedish Member of European Parliament Mr. Goran Lindblad was the main author of the resolution. This resolution condemns the massive violation of human rights in the totalitarian communist regimes, which have included individual and collective assassinations and executions, death in concentration camps, starvation, deportations, torture, slave labor and other forms of mass physical terror.

"Whereas another totalitarian movement of the 20th century, namely Nazism, has been investigated, internationally condemned and the perpetrators have been brought to trial, similar crimes committed in the name of communism have neither been investigated nor received any international condemnation," said Lindblad in a report supporting the resolution.

The resolution urges the Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers to investigate the violations of former communist regimes and issue a declaration for their international condemnation. It also calls on post-communist countries to introduce a memorial day for victims and establish museums documenting the crimes.

After The Epoch Times published the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party, many details of persecution and torture at the hands of the Chinese Communist Regime were revealed. In discussing the resolution, the Council of Europe Parliament referenced the book The Black Book of Communism: Crimes, Terror, Repression. This book estimates that the Chinese Communist Regime has murdered over 65 million of its own citizens, greatly surpassing the USSR, estimated at murdering 20 million.

There are 2,822 documented deaths of Falun Gong practitioners from persecution and torture at the hands of the Chinese Communist regime. These documented deaths have occurred in over 30 provinces and autonomous regions across China. Of the deaths, 54.64% were women, and 57.21% were over 50 years of age.

The Council of Europe Parliament's passing of the resolution "Need for International Condemnation of the Crimes of Totalitarian Communist Regimes" is a step in the right direction of revealing and condemning the crimes of communist regimes. In the near future, even more nations and people of the world will recognize and condemn the crimes of the Chinese Communist regime, eventually bringing an end to this dictatorship in China.
