Czech Republic: Exhibition Presents the Creative Works of the Persecuted (Photo)

(Clearwisdom.net) Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance. That's the title of the exhibition on show at the Kralovopolska Gallery on Husitska Street. It's an exhibition of paintings by Chinese artists, all of whom are practitioners of Falun Gong.

The paintings depict the stories and experiences of the artists themselves, as well as their fellow practitioners, who survived torture, forced labor camps and suppression.

The paintings, which will be displayed in Brno until February 17, were first exhibited in New York, then traveled to Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, and finally to Europe. Eighteen artworks came to the Czech Republic. Due to space constraints, only fifteen paintings could be shown in Brno's exhibition.

Falun Gong, a traditional method for the cultivation of mind and body, based on the principles of truthfulness, compassion, forbearance, has been persecuted in China since 1999 by the Chinese Communist Party. One meaning of this exhibition is to draw a contrast between the violent persecution and the deep meaning of personal cultivation and the development of moral character it inspires.

Former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin launched the elimination of Falun Gong campaign because the number of Falun Gong practitioners was greater than the membership of the Communist party. Official statistics at the end of 2001 reported that the number of practitioners who had died after being arrested or sentenced reached 1600. The number of missing people is supposedly several times higher.

Many Falun Gong practitioners reside in the Czech Republic. They monitor the situation in China and try to help by using various means. The latest activity was a gathering in Ostrava city, where people had the opportunity to sign a petition to end the persecution of Falun Gong.
