PhD Candidate Huang Hongqi Suffers Mental Breakdown from Police Brutality

Dafa practitioner Huang Hongqi, a former PhD candidate in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Dalian University of Technology, left his home at noon on January 29, 2006. He never returned. On February 1, Huang Hongqi's work unit in Zhongshan City, Guangdong Province telephoned his family, and said that Huang Hongqi had been arrested by the Guangzhou City Railway Police.

Huang Hongqi's father called the Guangzhou City Railway Police Station and was told that Huang Hongqi was detained elsewhere. This was the third time that Huang Hongqi was arrested for his firm belief in "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance." In 2003, he was persecuted so much he suffered a mental breakdown at the time of the second arrest.

Mr. Huang Hongqi, 35 years old, is from Huangpo District of Wuhan City, Hubei Province. When the CCP began to persecute Dafa on July 20, 1999, he was writing his dissertation at Dalian University of Technology. He was arrested for clarifying the truth, and was illegally detained in Dalian City Forced Labor Camp in December, 1999. Meanwhile, he was struck from the school roster. He was persecuted for two and a half years in Dalian City Forced Labor Camp. His eardrum was ruptured, he had needles inserted into his head and he also suffered savage force-feeding. As a result, he was devastated both physically and mentally.

In July 2003, Huang Hongqi was arrested by the National Security Brigade for clarifying the truth. During the detention, the perpetrators in the National Security Brigade intimidated and tempted him to be a spy, explaining that he would receive 100 thousand yuan. He firmly rejected them. After being terribly tortured physically and mentally, Huang Hongqi was released in December 2003. At that time, he was mentally disoriented, emaciated and extremely frightened. He was scared of police vehicles and police, and he often suspected that spies were shadowing and monitoring him. He closely shut the doors and windows of his home. His family members were very puzzled about that. He said that someone from the National Security Brigade would come to arrest him. Thus an excellent young intellectual, persecuted cruelly by CCP officials, was left a mere shadow of his former self.

In February 2006, Huang Hongqi was arrested by the National Security Brigade for the third time.
