Persecution of Practitioners in Anqiu City, Shandong Province (Part 1)

1. Ms. Do Yongchun, a 44-year-old practitioner from East Guhe Village, Linwu Town, Anqiu City, was illegally arrested and taken to Anqiu Detention Center for seven days. She was transferred to Linwu Police Station for another 13 days, because she had gone to Beijing to clarify the truth in 2000. She was released after her family handed over 1,000 yuan. In December 2001, Ms. Do was once again arrested and sent to Anqiu City Detention Center for another 13 days and fined 3,000 yuan.

2. Mr. Dou Yongxin, a 42-year-old practitioner from Guanzhuang Village, Liuhe, Guanzhuang Town, Anqiu City, was arrested and beaten when he went to Beijing to clarify the truth in 2000. He was detained and forced to sit up straight for the whole night at the Beijing Service Center for Visitors from Anqiu City. He was taken back to Guanzhuang Town the next day and handcuffed next to a big tree for three days. He was not released until his family paid 1,500 yuan.

In December 2001, Qi Yansheng, the town's deputy director, visited Mr. Dou at home and violently beat him.

In 2001, the police stations in Anqiu and Guanzhuang Town cooperated to arrest and detain Mr. Dou at Anqiu Detention Center for 10 days. He was fined 3,000 yuan.

3. Ms. Zhou Pinhua, a 52-year-old practitioner from Qiaobeitou Village, Anqiu City, was arrested and handcuffed overnight by Beijing police in 2000. The next day, Guanzhuang Police Station sent people to take her back to Guanzhuang County, and handcuffed her to a big tree until the following morning. Then they locked her in a garage for another three days and released her after her family submitted 1,500 yuan.

In 2001, the police stations in Anqiu City and Guanzhuang County cooperated to arrest and then detain Ms. Zhou at Anqiu Detention Center for 20 days. They fined her 3,000 yuan.

4. Ms. Zhao Songmei, a 42-year-old practitioner from Hanjiapu Village, Xingan Street Office, Anqiu City, was arrested and taken to Tiananmen Police Station on October 13, 1999, when she was on her way to Beijing to clarify the truth. Later, she was sent to Beijing Service Center for Visitors from Weifang City. All her money was confiscated and she was handcuffed for one whole night. The next day, Ms. Zhao was dispatched to her district police station and handcuffed for another night. She was eventually transferred to a detention center for 15 days and fined 115 yuan. Then she was sent to a brainwashing center where they tried for force her to give up cultivation practice. At the center, Zhao Songmei was imprisoned for six days and forced to pay 2,000 yuan before being released.

On the night of February 23, 2000, Ho Zengxiang broke into Ms. Zhao Songmei’s home, abducted her, and took her to a brainwashing center. Ms. Zhao went on a four-day hunger strike to protest her illegal arrest and detention.

On March 6, 2000, Ms. Zhao was arrested and handcuffed for one whole night on her second trip to Beijing to clarify the truth. The next day she was sent to a brainwashing center and consequently went on a five-day hunger strike.

On October 25, 2000, about eight individuals once again abducted Ms. Zhao and took her to a brainwashing center. She escaped that time but has since been unable to return home.

On November 13, 2000, Ms. Zhao was arrested and sent to a detention center while she was handing out truth-clarifying materials. She went on a hunger strike with other detainees for six days before being released. She was forced to pay 120 yuan.

In February 2006, Liu Damin, the village chief, broke into Ms. Zhao’s home and confiscated her belongings.
