Attachments Are the Root Cause of Pain; Do Not Forget to Practice Cultivation When Experiencing Pain

(Clearwisdom.net) When our mood is unstable, we feel nervous, anxious, pained, and bothered, and we cannot focus. These are all caused by our attachments that we still have not given up. When we see, hear, or feel that something has occurred or will happen, these things that have already occurred or will occur touch upon our notions, human thoughts, or attachments, and we start to lose our composure. If we do not have such notions, human thoughts or attachments, even if things that do not meet our expectations take place, our hearts will not be touched and our minds will not be affected.

When our mood is not stable, if we do not first control our heart and calm down, it will get worse and worse, and bad thoughts will arise more and more. Fear and pain will come unnecessarily. We will naturally try to find a solution or try to avoid things that make us feel unhappy or fearful or cause pain. However, that is not the fundamental solution. The true fundamental solution is to calm down, look within to see what we have not given up, what we are still very concerned about, and what we have not done well according to Master's teachings; in other words, what attachments we have not let go of. In fact, this becomes a good chance to let go of fame, profit, sentimentality, and other human notions, and it is arranged by Master for us to practice cultivation. Didn't Master tell us that "the entire cultivation process for a practitioner is one of constantly giving up human attachments." (Zhuan Falun)

Be sure not to miss such a rare opportunity to practice cultivation.
