Twice Sentenced to Forced Labor Camps, Shanghai Practitioner Ms. Zhang Xiangfeng Is Now Under 24-Hour Surveillance
By a Falun Dafa practitioner in Shanghai
(Clearwisdom.net) Sixty-seven year-old Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Zhang
Xiangfeng lives in Youshimei Development Building 7, Unit 802, Wanke Garden
Community, Qibao Town, Shanghai. Since September 25, police officers from the
Qibao Town Police Station and staff from the Wanke Neighborhood Committee have
been following her every move. Taking shifts they watch her constantly, around
the clock. The police officers and committee staff members station themselves under the
pavilion in the community common area. They sometimes sit directly in the
doorway of Building No. 7. Whenever Ms. Zhang leaves her home, they follow her.
They even follow her when she does her grocery shopping. One day they followed
her to her son's house when she was visiting, and then followed her back home
when she left. Ms. Zhang started practicing Falun Dafa in 1995. She embraces
"Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance," and personally experiences the
wonders of Falun Dafa and the purification of mind and body. She has a good
reputation and is much liked in her community. However, this gentle senior
citizen has been subjected to persecution since the Chinese Communist Party
began suppressing Falun Gong in 1999. From October 2000 to October 2002, Ms. Zhang Xiangfeng was imprisoned for
practicing Falun Dafa. During those two years, she was subjected to forced labor
and brainwashing at the Shanghai Qingpu Women's Forced Labor Camp. She got sick
at the camp due to overwork and developed high blood pressure as a result of the
stress. Her blood pressure was consistently 200mm or higher. She also developed
coronary heart disease, and her feet swelled to the point that the skin on her
feet looked transparent. The administrative staff of the camp disregarded her
ill-health and forced her to continue working. From October 2004 to October 2005, Ms. Zhang was again imprisoned for one
year at the Shanghai Minhang Forced Labor Camp. Two criminals who were drug
offenders were ordered by the prison officers to closely follow Ms. Zhang each
day and night for the entire year. Thus, Ms. Zhang suffered mental and physical
abuse. One night in May 2006, Ms. Zhang was arrested in her home as she lay
sleeping. The police ransacked her home and took her computer, her printer, and
her Falun Dafa books. Her grandson lived with her and was also arrested. When
she was detained in Minhang Detention Center, she went on a hunger strike to
protest the unjust incarceration. She was then brutally force-fed twice at the
Shanghai Tilanqiao Prison Hospital. After 28 days in prison, Ms. Zhang was
released on bail due to her high blood pressure and coronary heart disease. October 14, 2007
