Falun Dafa Practitioner Ms. Zhao Meiling Tortured at the Wangcun Women's Labor Camp in Shandong Province

(Clearwisdom.net) On September 30, 2005, Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Zhao Meiling from Huancui District in Weihai City was taken to the second ward of the Wangcui Women's Labor Camp by officials from the local 610 Office. She was constantly tortured by the guards because she refused to give up practicing Falun Gong.

On September 28, 2005, Ms. Zhao Meiling was arrested on the first floor of her apartment building by two agents from the local 610 Office, Liu Jie (male) and Liu Jinhu (male). They ransacked her house and confiscated property valued at over 20,000 yuan. On September 30, they illegally detained her at the Wangcun Women's Labor Camp and she remains there to this day.

Ward leader Zhao Wenhui (female), assistant leader Zhao Lili (female), and instructor Sun Zhenhong (female), ordered guards to brutally torture Ms. Zhao Meiling for refusing to give up her beliefs. The methods they use include sleep deprivation, forced standing for long periods, denial of bathroom privileges, and solitary confinement (1). Ms. Zhao protested by going on a hunger strike. After 13 days, some of the blood vessels in her legs burst and she could not stand upright anymore. The camp officials then extorted money from her family, ostensibly for medical treatment.

From July 2006 to March 2007, Ms. Zhao Meiling was confined to a damp bathroom that was less than 50 square feet in size. Camp officials ordered some of the inmates imprisoned for drug abuse to watch Falun Dafa practitioners day and night, slandering, cursing, and torturing practitioners. Ms. Zhao was constantly monitored by someone and was beaten by ward leader Zhao Wenhui. Ms. Zhao Meiling was tortured for a long time by having her arms stretched, her wrists tightly shackled, and her legs constrained in painful positions. She could only stand up or squat down. She was also tied to a metal pipe and forced-fed. As a result, her health became very frail and she became hypertensive at times.

When Ms. Zhao Meiling was transferred out of the bathroom, she was assigned to do slave labor, which she refused to do. The Ward Deputy Leader Zhao Lili ferociously cursed at her. They ordered Ms. Zhao to get up at 4:30 a.m. and wash herself. At night, Ms. Zhao was only allowed to wash after everyone else had gone to sleep. After one month, Ms. Zhao Meiling suffered hypertension for over a month due to being tortured. The guards still did not release her and continuously forced her to do slave labor, get up early and stay up late at night. Zhao Wenhui even refused to let Ms. Zhao's family visit, though they had come a long way to the prison to see her. In protest, Ms. Zhao Meiling's only option was to go on hunger strike again.

Note:

(1) The so-called "Being confined in a solitary compartment" refers to locking up a single detainee in a solitary cell, which contains a basin and a pair of handcuffs. The basin is used both for face washing and relieving the bladder and bowels. One end of the handcuffs fastens the wrist and the other end attaches to the door railing. The handcuffs can be fastened to the door railing at three different heights. In the highest position, the detainee has to extend his/her arm upward. The middle position is at waist level. In the lowest position, the detainee can only sit on the ground. See illustration on http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2001/11/24/16156.html Figure 11
