Practitioner Hou Manyun and Her Husband from Laiyuan County Illegally Arrested by Police from Baoding City, Hebei Province

(Clearwisdom.net) On July 16, 2007, at about 7:00 p.m., six police officers from the Public Security Bureau in Baoding City and Laiyuan County arrived in two cars at Ms. Hou Manyun's residence in Shuiyun Village, Laiyuan District, and invaded her home. Just as Ms. Hou stepped outside her house, one of the officers went up to her and said, "We are from the Public Security Bureau and want to have a talk with you inside the house." Ms. Hou recognized the man as Wei Jinkui, captain of the State Security Brigade at Laiyuan County. She asked, "Why are you here? To arrest people? Do you want to extort money from us because we built a house?"

As she was speaking, Ms. Hou walked straight to the street. Wei Jinkui and others tried to pull her back. She resisted strongly and said loudly, "What do you officers want that can't be talked about in public? Let's talk in the street." At the time, both her husband and son were at home.

Villagers then started to gather around. The police officers, noticing the crowd, tried even harder to pull Ms. Hou toward the police car, but she resisted vigorously and they weren't able to carry her to the car. Wei Jinkui then called for reinforcements.

Within thirty minutes, two more vans with more than twenty police officers arrived. Among them was one policewoman, who was shouting and swearing. Ms. Hou sat on the ground in order to resist the arrest.

The crowd of on-lookers was six people thick. Finally, within view of the crowd, four police officers hauled Ms. Hou to the police car, and took her to the Laiyuan County Public Security Bureau.

After Ms. Hou was taken away, the remaining officers searched her house without showing any legal documents. They confiscated many of the family's belongings. Ms. Hou owns an electronic maintenance business which has been in the family for many years, and the officers took all of the maintenance equipment, including electronic parts, computers, cell phones, and even children's books and backpacks. The items filled two cars and had a worth totaling more than 30,000 yuan.

The officers also arrested Ms. Hou Manyun's husband, Wang Fushun. The police officers didn't get back to the bureau until ten o'clock that night. The bureau's two large offices were filled with the stolen items. Officer Wei Jinkui and the self-proclaimed Baoding Police Chief interrogated Ms. Hao for five hours, into the night. Wei used a frozen water bottle to hit Ms. Hao in the head and face while interrogating her about recent Internet reports that exposed police officers, including Wei himself, who were persecuting and abusing practitioners. Ms. Hao replied, "I don't know how to type and I don't use the Internet."

Wei tried to force Ms. Hao to identify three males and two females from a photo. The Baoding police officers pointed to a person in the picture and said, "Isn't he the one called 'Young Wang,' the technician?" Ms. Hao replied, "I don't know." Then one of the police officers said, "Inform every county police chief to come to Baoding for a meeting and have the picture enlarged. I don't believe we can't catch him."

While the police officers were still sleeping very early in the morning, Ms. Hao tore up the picture on the table into tiny pieces with her handcuffed hands, and then put the pieces in her mouth. At around 6:00 a.m., she was able to pull off the handcuffs and escape from the Public Security Bureau.

When her son and daughter-in-law went to the Public Security Bureau to request her release, the police officer on duty threatened them, "Your mother was released this morning. Don't let her help with New Tang Dynasty Television, otherwise we will arrest her again. Your father is in big trouble too. Not only did he help New Tang Dynasty, but he also broadcast TV programs--wait for his sentencing!"

Currently, Ms. Hao Manyun is living a homeless life to avoid being illegally arrested again.
