Western Audience Members in Montreal: The Spectacular Is a Completely New Experience

(Clearwisdom.net) New Tang Dynasty Television's Chinese New Year Spectacular performed by Divine Performing Arts Touring Company had its premier in Maisonneuve Theatre at the Place-Des-Arts in Montreal, Canada on January 15, 2008. After the show, we interviewed audience members to hear their impressions of the show. Several Westerners said that this was their first exposure to the richness of Chinese culture and it was a completely new experience.

Bernice is a retired Human Resource Specialist. She told us, "I liked it! It is a very different [art] form. I don't know anything about China ... it's a discovery for me."

She mentioned the details that she liked most about the show. "The costumes are very nice and the performers are so graceful. I like the songs; we don't hear this kind of song here." She repeated, "Its a new discovery," and added, "and the music is very good!"

Bernice said her favorite parts of the program were "The Tibetan dance, tea dance, and the lotus dance." She also praised the masters of ceremonies for their introductions before each performance, which helped her to understand the special character of the dances.

Bernice summed up her thoughts with, "It was my first Chinese show. I enjoyed it. I'm really happy to be here."

Seren, a student at Concordia University, and her sister Maryann came to the show together. Seren is studying Chinese. She commented, "Very beautiful show, the costumes, the dance, the songs, the choreography."

Her sister Maryann added, "Everything was beautiful. Adorable and marvelous. Everybody should see this show."

The sisters also said that the Spectacular has both educational as well as entertainment value and it helped them learn more about China and Falun Dafa. "We have seen people practicing Falun Gong in Chinatown, but we didn't know much about them." As for the persecution of Falun Gong that is still going on in China, the sisters said, "It is so unfortunate, unfortunate!"
