(Clearwisdom.net) On October 1, 2008, a son of a village leader in Huludao City, Liaoning Province, got married. The chief of the local police station went to the wedding festivities with several subordinates. The police chief talked about Falun Gong during the wedding. He said, "I have been dealing with Falun Gong and its practitioners for nine years. Some of my family's friends are practitioners. Falun Gong is definitely effective in healing illnesses. Miraculous things have happened to my friends. I recommend that no one harass Falun Gong practitioners even if the government gives the orders. The more we harass them, the more problems we have to face.
"In 1999, Chief A headed the police station I'm in charge of now. He arrested and imprisoned more than 80 practitioners. However, he did not stop people from practicing Falun Gong. Families of the practitioners he persecuted hated him and spoke ill of him. His reputation during that time was one of the worst. In 2003, he died in a car accident. His son hasn't found a job yet and has no one to look after him.
"After Chief A died, B became the chief of the police station. He arrested several practitioners. Every time he arrested one, in less than three days, his illegal deed was published in flyers distributed to every household in the area. There were banners hanging on every street exposing what he had done. He also was included on the Falun Gong "List of Perpetrators."He received phone calls all day long from overseas, and local practitioners told him to stop what he was doing. He couldn't sleep or eat. His supervisors chastised him for not going after practitioners, and the families of the practitioners he had arrested tried to find him. His life was full of stress and more than unpleasant.
"Now I am the chief. I do not think practitioners have done anything wrong and they will be exonerated in the future. It is a group of people who care about one another. If you arrest one of them, even if his family can't find you, one of the practitioners will for sure. I know if I did what I am not supposed to, I would be in for endless trouble. I learned my lesson from the former chiefs. I have not arrested any practitioners during the past several years, since the day since I became chief. Nobody bothers me and I am at ease, so why would I?"
In the past nine years, many kind and wise people like the police chief have chosen for themselves and their families a bright future by not participating in the persecution of Falun Gong.
