Today's News from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 14 cities and counties in seven provinces. Fifteen practitioners were subjected to brutal treatment during their detention and at least 10 practitioners were illegally arrested

If a detainee at the Nanguanling Prison in Dalian City wants to make a phone call he has to write an application. In addition, the calling time is only three minutes. All items sold in the prison's store are very expensive, and most are fakes. Falun Dafa practitioners held there are made to work daily from 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Abuse and beatings are common. More than ten practitioners are being held in the Tight Administration Team.

Policemen and several criminals from the No. 12 Division beat a transferred practitioner from the Huazi Prison to death on January 6, 2008 because he/she refused to do forced labor.

Practitioner Mr. Xu Zhibin from Jinzhou City was transferred from the Wafangdian Prison to the Jinzhou Prison on December 19, 2007.

Mr. Xu's family visited him on February 15, 2007. He was very weak and had to be carried out to meet his family. There was a lump in his neck. Mr. Xu said his heartbeat is more than 90 beats per minute at rest. Though Mr. Xu is already in peril, four criminals monitored him around the clock and attempted to "reform" him. Mr. Xu's family requested his unconditional release and a physical examination.

Xu Zhibin is presently being held at the Jinzhou Prison's No. 7 Division.

Mr. Li Jie is from the New Zhongshanmen Village in the Hedong District, Tianjin. His parents were tortured to death for practicing Falun Gong. He has been arrested several times. Personnel from the Zhongmenshan Police Station ransacked his home and confiscated some Falun Gong truth-clarification materials in early January 2008. Police later went to Mr. Li's workplace and arrested him. His 12-year-old child is left home without care.

Married couple Ms. Shi Xiangdong and Mr. Liu Xin from Shijiazhuang City were arrested before the Chinese New Year and put into prison.

Ms. Shi was sentenced to three years in prison, her sentence to be served at the Hebei Province Women's Prison, and Mr. Liu was sentenced to five years in prison, at the Jidong Prison in Tangshan City.

Ms. He Jing was arrested and then put into the Maoming City No. 1 Detention Center on October 1, 2007 for explaining the facts of Falun Gong. Her family visits have all been denied. The police even prohibited the family from delivering some clothes to Ms. He during the cold winter. Her mother was eventually extorted out of 2,000 yuan in order to request the police to hand over the clothes, but she still could not see her daughter.

Maoming City Court agents have sentenced Ms. He, but Ms. He appealed. Her case has been submitted to the city's Intermediate Court.

Ms. Liang Hongzhi was arrested and put in the Wangcun Forced Labor Camp on December 24, 2007. The police locked her up in a restroom and assigned a criminal to monitor her around the clock.

Sima Township Judicatory Department chief Mr. Li Zhijian and his wife, both practitioners, were arrested on January 6, 2007. Mr. Li was sentenced to five months of house arrest. Ms. Li was sentenced to one year and three months in prison, sentence to be served at the Jinan City Women's Prison. Mr. Yuan Weizhong, arrested on January 7, 2008, was sentenced to one year and three months of forced labor, to be served at the Zhangqiu Forced Labor Camp.

Personnel from the Mafeng Police Station arrested Ms. Zhang Jihui from Wangshi Town, Haicheng City on January 28, 2008 for distributing Dafa truth-clarification materials. She was then sentenced to one and a half years of forced labor, to be served at the Anshan City Forced Labor Camp.

Policemen from Guiyu Town arrested 40-year-old Ms. Chen Huijun from Puning City and beat her until she sustained an internal hemorrhage on Chinese New Year's Day. The arrest happened when Ms. Chen put up Falun Gong banners in Guiyu Town, the Chaoyang District in Shantou City. She is presently being held at the district's detention center.

Mr. Lu Weiwen, his wife Ms. Yamei and Ms. Li Xiuyan run a shoe store. Personnel from the Zhongshan City 610 Office and Police Department arrested Ms. Yamei and Ms. Li in the store on January 20, 2008 and then arrested Mr. Lu from his home. They are presently being held at a local detention center.

Personnel from the Benxi City Forced Labor Camp and from the Tongyuanbao Town Police Station arrested Mr. Xiao Mingrui at 8:00 p.m. on February 20, 2008.

Mr. Liu Yingxu, 35 years old, used to be an assistant engineer in the Dongfang Steamship Factory in Deyang City. He went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong but was arrested in a hotel and sentenced to one year of forced labor. His workplace fired him. Mr. Liu was sentenced to two years of forced labor in June 2001 because of suspected involvement in Falun Gong truth-clarification activities. After his release he went to work in Chengdu City, but was arrested again and put in the Xinjin Brainwashing Center in November 2007. Prior to his latest arrest, Liu Yingxu had been manager in a company's sales department.

Liu Yingxu's parents are not in good health. Her mother fainted on hearing of his arrest.

The police arrested 62-year-old Ms. Fang Youqi from Guiyang City on February 4, 2008 for distributing truth-clarification materials with another practitioner.

Mr. Han Defa, 57 years old, is from the Longfeng District in Daqing City. He was transferred from Daqing City into the Hulan City Tight Administration Division in October 2007 for a three-year-term.

Yangezhuang Town Police Station chief Gao Xu in Tangshan City arrested Mr. Xing Xiujun, Ms. He Wenmei and Mr. He Wenli on August 9, 2008 and sentenced them to one year of forced labor on October 10, 2007. Ms. He Wenmei is presently being held at the Kaiping Detention Center in Tangshan City, and Mr. He Wenli and Mr. Xing are in the Shijiazhuang City Forced Labor Camp.

Personnel from the Dawan Police Station arrested 50-year-old Ms. Sun Li before the Chinese New Year. They confiscated several Dafa books and CDs. Ms. Sun is presently being held at the Liudaowan Detention Center in Ulumuqi City.

Several practitioners are presently being held at the Drug Rehabilitation Center in Dalian City. According to a practitioner who used to be held there, detainees were daily forced to make certain products for overseas companies, from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., including 30 minutes for breakfast, lunch and dinner.. The overseas companies included FloraBase (www.florabase.nl)

Personnel from the Hongdao Police Station and officials from the Hongdao Street Government in the Chengyang District, Qingdao City broke into the homes of Ms. Zhao Yanghai, Ms. Zhao Yuling and Ms. Zhao Xianmin and arrested them at midnight on February 15, 2008.
