Liu Peizhen Sentenced to Eight Years, Nearly Blind from Torture and Abuse

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Liu Peizhen, a practitioner in her sixties, is from the Nanshan District in Shenzhen City. Before she began practicing Falun Gong in 1998, she had various diseases. She was practically blind and was unable to raise her drooping eyelids. But after becoming a practitioner, all her diseases vanished. She looked younger too. The principles of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance" also transformed her previously unpleasant demeanor to one that was peaceful and kind.

After the Chinese Communist Party and Jiang's circle began persecuting Falun Gong, Ms. Liu decided to clarify the truth and try to save the deceived Chinese people. She used every penny she had to produce truth-clarification materials and the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party. Every day, she would go out on the street to distribute these materials. When she got hungry during the day, she would eat a cookie or a piece of pineapple, and when she got thirsty, she would drink tap water.

On October 21, 2004, someone reported Ms. Liu to the police while she was clarifying the truth. Officers from the Nanshan District 610 Office and the Nanshan District Police Department arrested her, ransacked her home, and seized her Dafa books, phone book, stamps, and envelopes. Since her arrest, the police have also been harassing her family members and monitoring their phones. Two days after her arrest, Ms. Liu managed to escape from police custody, but she became homeless as a result. The police responded by placing her on their "most wanted" list.

At around 9:00 a.m. on April 15, 2005, officers from the Nanshan District 610 Office and the Xili Police Station (under the Nanshan District Police Department) burst into the rental property where Ms. Liu Peizhen and her husband were living and arrested them both. They also seized Ms. Liu's computer and her Nine Commentaries DVDs. Because her husband was very old and infirm, he was released the following day. Ms. Liu, however, was held at the Nanshan District Detention Center.

In November 2005, the Nanshan District Court held a trial for Ms. Liu and three other Falun Gong practitioners from Shenzhen City. The following April, Ms. Liu was sentenced to eight years in prison for distributing truth-clarification materials. She is currently being held at the Guangzhou City Women's Prison.

It is impossible to express how much pain and torture Ms. Liu has suffered during the last three years. According to her family, Ms. Liu is almost blind, so she is unable to read anything. She is also unable to care for herself without assistance.
