Retired General Li Qilin: "The Divine Performing Arts Is Preparing a Future for Our Children and Grandchildren" (Photos)

(Clearwisdom.net) General Li Qilin, a man known for his kind heart and fearless courage, served in the military for 40 years and was deputy director of the War Department of the Ministry of Defense of Taiwan before retiring as Lt. General. Yesterday he and his wife, Yang Bilian, watched the Chinese Spectacular by Divine Performing Arts (DPA) in Taichung City and said excitedly afterward, "The DPA performance was the best show I've ever seen. It's a worthy performance, and every movement, every musical note in it was so beautiful and moving. We felt touched! Our hands were swollen from clapping."

The following is a transcript of the recorded interview with the general.

The Show's Energy

"I felt every dance, every movement in it was so graceful and elegant. The spirit of the show made us feel so peaceful! It's the energy that comes from life. This is the first feeling I had watching the show."

"It's important to see a person's character. My second impression was: the performers in the show were all well trained and cultured. For instance, the young male performers may not be strong and muscular enough, and the expressions on their faces and their movements were not that aggressive, and yet every detail of their movements suggested that they were so modest and understanding. There was a very strong sense of masculinity and tolerance about them. The female performers--they were all gorgeous, beautiful and gentle. Every one of them was so pure and graceful."

"Moreover, the DPA show fully revealed the essence of 5000 years of traditional Chinese culture characterized by loyalty, piety, faithfulness, and righteousness. It was a display of human kindness and graciousness. I was touched by the confidence on each and every performer's face. I saw that every dance showed mutual respect and care for others. These virtues and merits stemming from the depth of culture and tradition are what Taiwan and the world need the most today. The strong confidence comes from one's recognition of his own heritage and love for his ethnic culture."

"Seeing so many people coming to watch the show, I felt humanity had hope."

"I loved the dance the "The Risen Lotus Flower" the most, because the three gentle and beautiful young ladies portrayed the human pursuit for the freedom of faith and the strength of the truth, something we need the most when we face evil and violence."

"Drummers of the Tang Court" showed the resilience and resolve of Chinese men, a force that can move mountains and that tells us that we should never feel discouraged or dispirited when we are facing setbacks or difficulties. When I was in the military, there was this morale education, which was called 'fight in despair'. It taught soldiers that they should have the resolve to fight to win in times of jeopardy."

"The perseverance depicted in the show is both an essential element of the culture and a moral requirement. Some say that without culture and ethics, the nation ceases to exist. On the other hand, if a nation can move toward the resurgence of its culture and ethics, it will be a driving force that will bring progress for society. Today when I saw so many people coming to see the show, I felt our nation now has hope, and humanity now has hope."

"An ancient Chinese scholar once said, 'Accumulate money for later generations, and they may not be able to keep it; accumulate books for later generations, and they may not be able to read them. So, it's better to accumulate virtue, and that will be a long-lasting gift for later generations.' I think that the DPA show is preparing a future for our children and grandchildren by passing on and promoting our traditional culture and ethics, and filling people's hearts with the universal values of 'Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance.'"

"We were touched by the show, and we applaud it!"
