Zhang Jian, 1989 Student Movement Leader: The Chinese Spectacular Represents the Essence of Moral Cultivation (Photo) By Epoch Times reporter Tang Hong from Paris
(Clearwisdom.net) At 10:00 p.m. on March 1, the third performance of the
Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular came to a successful close. The
performers struck such an ebullient rapport with the audience that thunderous
applause broke out in the theater from time to time throughout the show. In the
audience, there were also quite a number of people from mainland China. Mr.
Zhang Jian was one of them. Zhang Jian at the International Convention Center in Paris
(Tang Hong from the Epoch Times) Mr. Zhang Jian was the chief director of the students picket team on
Tiananmen Square during the June 4th student democratic movement in
1989. He was arrested and detained, but managed to flee overseas later. He
believes that in the face of the dark environment in mainland China, the Chinese
Spectacular has brought people bright hope. Mr. Zhang said, "The show was very good. I have watched the show every
year for the last three years, and each time I was even more moved and
inspired." He was particularly impressed with the performance that depicted
ordinary people stepping forward to oppose the persecution of Falun Gong
cultivators. "Nowadays, what we often experience is that people feel
indifferent towards the persecution happening around them, but the Chinese
Spectacular has pointed out a bright path for people, and that is to resist the
persecution together; the brightness will defeat the darkness." The drum beats inspire people to go forward Mr. Zhang said that the show was truly moving, and the performances that
inspired him most were the two drum dances: one was "Drummers of the Tang
Court" and the other one was the dance, "Victory Drums." Through
the drum beats he could see the unyielding spirit of the cultivators, and he
could feel that in the next few years, the righteous force will be making the
final charge against the evil force. Zhang Jian said that when the student
movement in 1989 was being crushed by the Chinese Communist regime, a famous
French singer sang a song called "Tiananmen," and at the ending of the
song the music incorporated small battle drums used when the French army was
making a charge. Mr. Zhang said, in mainland China, the evil Chinese Communist force is still
persecuting spiritual cultivators, political dissidents, human rights defenders,
and even on the eve of the Olympics, they are still rampantly arresting people.
He said that the drum beats encourage people to go forward without stopping. The words "Falun Dafa is good" next to the jail's iron window test
the strength of people's integrity Zhang Jian was deeply touched by two dances "The Risen Lotus
Flower" and "The Power of Awareness." He said in the performance
that showed three female Falun Gong practitioners being beaten in jail, he saw
handwritten characters "Falun Dafa is good" on the high wall next to
the iron window. "This is a scene you see often in mainland China. One can
often see women and children, although a seemingly weak group, they stand on the
very front line to resist the dictatorship with unyielding will; day and night
they are resisting the most evil force as the Chinese Communist Party," he
said. "Facing such a cultivation group, how can one not say they are
outstanding? If one does not dare to say even this, then one needs to check
one's integrity. When the good has defeated the evil, when democracy has
defeated dictatorship, when the new era is born, people will forget hatred, but
they will not forget those indifferent onlookers when the evil was doing evil
things. From a certain perspective, the onlookers are just as brazen as the
evildoers." Like a pond of clear water Mr. Zhang Jian mentioned three types of people who oppose the Chinese
Communist Party (CCP): The first type are those who hold grievances against the
CCP; the second type are those who have developed an addiction to opposing the
CCP; there is another type who have become exhausted and ill during their
resistance against the CCP. "From the performances, we can see that Falun
Gong practitioners do not hold any hatred, nor do they have any strong interest
in opposing the CCP, and they are not sick at all. They look at the evil from a
much higher perspective, and we can see sincere smiles on every performer's
face. Their performances are like flowing clouds and running water, silently
nourishing all. What is lacking most in today's world is 'truthfulness', and one
can see falsehood, evilness and violence everywhere. The Chinese Spectacular is
like a pond of clear water," he said. The Chinese Spectacular represents the essence of Chinese culture Mr. Zhang Jian also mentioned that the CCP is also trying hard to export
performances like dances and acrobatics, and even though some are also of very
high standards technically, when you watch them, you can only enjoy what is
shown on the surface, the shapes and forms, but not the spirit. They only make
use of the traditional culture in name, but with no substance, so many people
have not been able to see the pure Chinese culture. He said many of his friends had come to watch the show today, and they were
all deeply moved, because the Chinese Spectacular represents the pure Chinese
culture, not only on the surface, but in spirit as well. This was something that
many people had not been able to see before. He said that in the explanation of
the show, it mentioned that the Chinese dances were very particular about inner
spirit. "The performers of the Divine Performing Arts are cultivators. They
love the Chinese culture from their hearts, so their performances are not just
based on technical practice and training, but result from their moral
cultivation as a whole. This is to return to the origin of truth, it is the
essence of the Chinese culture." Mr. Zhang Jian told the reporter that from the Chinese Spectacular, he could
feel the profundity of the Chinese culture, which also embraces various other
cultures. He said the show also fully displayed Chinese traditional values such
as loyalty, filial piety, moral integrity, brotherhood, benevolence, justice,
propriety, wisdom and trust.
