Ms. Dong Shaomei and Her Husband from Zhongshan City, Guangdong Province Arrested

(Clearwisdom.net) On the afternoon of January 20, 2008, Deputy Police Chief Liu, policeman Huang Cunrong and several Hongji police officers from the Shiqi District in Zhongshan City, Guangdong Province drove to Ms. Dong Shaomei's and Ms. Li Xiuyan's retail shoe store in Zhangxi Market in the Shiqi District. The two practitioners were arrested and forced into the police vehicle. The shoe store was closed. At the Hongji Police Station Ms. Dong and Ms. Li were ordered to write statements giving up the practice of Falun Gong. They refused. They were then detained and persecuted for a month in the Zhongshan City Detention Center. They are now being held in Sanshui Forced Labor Camp in Guangdong Province.

Lu Weiwen, Ms. Dong's husband, was arrested and detained by the Zhongshan City Police Department's 610 Office for practicing Falun Gong. His parents are in their 80s. They are very frail and suffer from several diseases. Nevertheless, they have to take care of Mr. Lu's 10-year-old son, who was suffering from a high fever at the writing of this article.

The Zhongshan City National Security Team (NST), the 610 Office, and the local police are continuing to follow, monitor, and arrest practitioners during the CCP's National People's Congress and the Political Consultative Conference. Some practitioners are monitored and kept under surveillance; some are interrogated at home about their recent whereabouts; and some are even sentenced to forced labor.

Mr. Lu Weiwen's mother worried about him not having proper clothing during police detention. Despite her ill health, she went to the detention center with some clothes for him. She put in a request to see him but was turned down. They even accused her of interfering with official police business.
