(Clearwisdom.net) News from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 16 cities and counties in 43 provinces. In this report, 38 practitioners were subjected to brutal mistreatment during detention and at least 71 practitioners were illegally arrested.

Ms. Wang Guiping was explaining the facts about Falun Gong at Nantai Market when she was arrested by officers from the Yongantai Police Station on March 3, 2008. Ms. Wang was taken to Nangou Detention Center, where she has been tortured. She is on a hunger strike to protest the mistreatment.

Ms. Teng Shiyun, 54, is a practitioner in Anshan City who explains the truth about Falun Gong to people. Police officers were tracking and monitoring her on March 5, 2008. They later arrested her and Tiexi Sub-Bureau officers confiscated her property. She is currently imprisoned at the Third Mingyueshan Detention Center of Anshan City

Ms. Teng has been arrested three times and has been imprisoned for several years. Her children have been terrorized and have suffered psychological trauma, as a result unable to take care of themselves. Ms Teng's husband has several illnesses and is unable to work.

Ms. Gu Li and Ms. Daqiu, both practitioners, were reported by a villager in Chengjia Village, Dengshahe Town while they were telling people about the goodness of Falun Dafa on the afternoon of March 20, 2008. They were arrested and taken to Dengshahe Police Station, and their houses and property were confiscated.

From March 9-18, 2008, six practitioners from Shiyan Town were arrested: Ms. Zhang Yinglan (64 years old), Ms. Zhao Yanping (32), Ms. Wang Xizhi (69), Mr. Zhang Qingjun (59) , Ms. Zhou Guiling (53), and Ms. Gong Xiuying(53). Ms Zhang Yinglan and Mr. Zhang Qingjun's houses and property were illegally confiscated. They are all imprisoned in Tumen City Anshan Detention Center.

Police officers arrested a practitioner from the Xicheng District while she was at Ms. Song Yaqin's house. At the same time, they also confiscated Ms. Fushuming and her husband's solemn declarations. On February 28, 2008, police officers from Dewai Police Station in Xichang District, used the declarations as a reason to arrest Ms. Fu Shuming and her husband, Mr. Wei (over 60 years old). Ms Fu's house and personal property were confiscated.

During the CCP Congress on March 14, 2008, several Nanwan Public and Security Bureau and National Security Team officers of Fengtai District arrested Ms. Yang Xilan while she was at work. They broke into Ms. Yang's house and confiscated her property. Ms. Yang's whereabouts is currently unknown.

On March 10, 2008, the Yiyuan County National Security Team ordered the Lucun Town police officers to arrest Beiguanzhuang practitioner, Mr. Liu Ximeng and another practitioner. They also confiscated the practitioners' houses.

Mr. Liu Xulai, a practitioner from Lingshou County, was distributing information about Falun Gong when a village secretary at the Sanshengyuan Village reported him to the police. Police officers and Lei Zhenhong, a director of the Baimagang Police Station, arrested Mr. Liu.

On the afternoon of March 16, 2008, Yangmazhuang Police Station officers and agents of the Yongqing Public Security Bureau confiscated practitioner Ms.Gao Xiuzhi's house. They took four MP3 players, an MP4 player, 2000 yuan, and a pair of earrings.

That same day, they also went to Qiyuanzi Village, broke into Ms. Han's house, and took some Falun Dafa books.

In the evening on March 17, officers from the Yangmazhuang Police Station police followed Mr. Zhang Hejiang to Yongqing's house. They illegally arrested Yongqing and the other practitioners. Mr. Zhang Hejiang and Mr. Zhaokai's whereabouts are currently unknown.

On March 4, 2008, agents from the local 610 Office and Yinnan County Public Security Bureau went to Mr. Liu Chenggui's home to arrest him. However, Mr. Liu had gone to Qingdao for a part-time job. When he returned home Yinnan police officers arrested him and took him to Yinan Detention Center on March 10. They confiscated some Falun Dafa books, 5000 yuan cash, a satellite receiver, a DVD player, and other items of value.

The police officers changed the locks on Mr. Liu's house. His wife, Ms. Wang Deju, is unable to enter her home.

Ms. Liu Jing, 75, is a practitioner in Xian City. She was a former doctor at Xidian Hospital in Xian City. She was on the way home when agents from the 610 Office picked her up and took her to the Xian City brainwashing center to torture her on the afternoon of March 17, 2008.

In the evening on March 13, 2008, agents from the 610 Office of Funan County, National Security Team, and street committee officers broke into Ms. Li Guomin's house. They confiscated her property and arrested her. She is currently imprisoned in Funan County Detention Center.

Ms. Zhu Xixia is a practitioner from Huangshi City. At noon on March 18, 2008, she was arrested and taken to Wuhan Law and Education Center's Brainwashing Center where she has been subjected to brainwashing and torture.

Mr. Yan Quanjia, a practitioner from Qinzhou District, Tianshui City, was arrested by Qinzhou District National Security Team of the Public Security Bureau on March 4, 2008. He was held for 24 hours in the Politics and Law building, then sent to Luergou Detention where he will likely be tortured.

Mr. Wang Hongfa is a practitioner and a house painter in Xishui County. He was secretly arrested by agents from the 610 Office of Xishui County on December 29, 2007.

Ms. Xiang Chunhua, over 30, and Mr. Xiaohe, over 30, are both practitioners. They were arrested by police officers on March 16, 2008, while distributing information about Falun Gong in Baoan, Shenzhen City. Their whereabouts are currently unknown.

Mr. Yan Weihong, 33 years old, is a practitioner. He was arrested by Manasi National Security Team in February 2006 for clarifying the truth about Falun Gong. Later, he was sentenced to four years in prison and taken to the Fifth Wulumuqi Prison. Since Mr. Yan was arrested he has been on a hunger strike to protest the illegality of his imprisonment. However, the guards of the prison forcibly and brutally fed Mr. Yan. He has become a mere skeleton as a result of torture and his life is in danger. His family asked for his release, but the prison authorities refused to honor their request.

At approximately 5:30 in the morning on March 13, 2008, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhou Huimin was tortured to death in the Qingyang District Hospital of Chengdu City. Chengdu City Wuhou Court intended to aggressively persecute practitioners Ms. Zhong Fangqiong, Ms. Ding Zeyang, Ms. Jiang Zonglin, Ms. Mao Kun, Ms. Zhu Renbin, and Ms. Liu Jia.

On March 14, 2008, Ms. Fan, a practitioner and a teacher from Dadong, was arrested. On the same day, Ms. Zhao, a practitioner from the Zhenxing District, was arrested, and then Mr. Cheng Yuanyi and Wei Liming, also practitioners from Dadong City, were "illegally arrested."

Ms. Li Shurong, 67, is a practitioner from Tonghua City and a former engineer at the Tonghua Forestry Chemical Works. At the end of January 2001, 610 Office agents broke into Ms. Li's house, confiscated her property, and took a copy of Zhuan Falun.

Ms. Li was arrested and taken to the Dongchang District Public Security Sub-Bureau, where she was photographed and fingerprinted. She was taken to the Changliu Detention Center and released approximately 10 days later. Shortly after she returned home, Ms. Li learned that the Dongchang Public Security Sub-Bureau intended to send her to the Changchun Forced Labor Camp. Ms. Li left her home for three years to avoid persecution.

Because Ms. Li practices Falun Gong, her son was fired from his job. The CCP officers forced Ms. Li to write the three statements that defame Falun Gong and its founder, Mr. Li Hongzhi, then forced her to attend brainwashing classes. Ms. Li suffered both physically and mentally. She has such severe rheumatism that she needs to use a wheelchair. Her health has not recovered yet.

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has stepped up its persecution of Falun Gong practitioners before the Beijing Olympic Games begin. The residence committee and basic cell of Jiaohe City have been notified of what they are to do. Recently, several practitioners were arrested, harassed, and their property was illegally confiscated.

Yang Huanning, Heilongjiang Province Politics and Law Secretary of the CCP, held a meeting in Haerbin City on March 9, 2008. He conveyed secret messages from Zhou Yongkang, Center Politics Commissioner, about how to persecute Falun Gong in Heilongjiang Province. After that meeting, all levels of government departments have held meetings to arrange how they will persecute Falun Gong practitioners.

The textbook Seventh Grader Vol. 2 of Sixiangpinde (16K)" contains an article that slanders Falun Gong on page 54. The article describes a fake incident involving Liu Siying that misleads the seventh grade students.

Since March 2008, Jiaonan City Committee, the 610 Office, and other departments have persecuted local Falun Gong practitioners before the Olympic Games begin.

On the afternoon of March 11, 2008, Tieshanlu Police Station officials held a meeting of local village secretaries. The meeting conveyed the message that every cell, residence committee, and village committee should hand in a list of practitioner's names so that the city government can arrange to have officers monitor and track the practitioners.

The Qingdao City 610 Office has delivered an open letter to citizens stating that anyone who reports practitioners who hang up Falun Gong posters, banners, or other materials will be paid 10-50 "yuan." Those who actually know of a meeting or who can provide specific information about Falun Gong practitioners or who cooperate with Public Security Officers to catch practitioners who post or distribute information about Falun Gong will be paid 500-2000 yuan. There are prizes and bonuses for those that do the most to help capture practitioners.

On the afternoon of March 16, Ms. Gu Qun was "illegally arrested' by Tianjin Street Police Station while she was distributing truth clarifying materials. The next day she was taken sent to Yaojia Detention Center in Dalian.

On December 6, 2007, Mulan County practitioners Ms. Jia Yan, Mr. Meng Xianyu, Mr. Sui Ximin, and Ms. Luo Yanxia went to the Qitun area of Dongxing Town in order to distribute copies of the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party. They were arrested by Jiang Shuchen and other policemen from the local Forestry Police Station. On December 14, the practitioners were detained at the Forestry Public Security Bureau in Tieli City. On March 16, 2008, Ms. Jia Yang's family received the notice of her death. The other three practitioners are on hunger strike, and their families have been refused the right to visit them.

On February 26, 2008, police from Muling's Beijie Police Station and the Muling City Domestic Security Division broke into practitioner Mr. Dong Xuekun's home and took him away along with his wife, Ms. Zhang Youmei, and their son, Dongdong. The family of three is currently being detained at the Muling City Detention Center. Ms. Zhang Youmei has been on a hunger strike for more than three weeks.

Around noon on March 20, more than 20 policemen in two to three police vehicles went to the art school "Ziya Design" in the Nangang District of Harbin City. The police demanded that the school provide business certificates and then illegally searched the school. The police took away more than 20 copies of Zhuan Falun, Tianyin Music Sheets, and students' notebooks. Fifteen students and a teacher were escorted to Xuanxi Police Station and illegally interrogated. The police asked them which of their family members were Falun Gong practitioners.

That evening, one male student was taken home by his parents, and one female student was escorted back to her home in Lanxi by the Lanxi police.

On the morning of March 17, 61-year-old practitioner Ms. Xie Yonglan from the Changshan area of Donggang City was clarifying the truth about Falun Gong in that city's Fruits and Vegetables Wholesale Market. She was reported anonymously and then arrested by the Donggang Public Security Bureau's Dadong Branch. She is now in Donggang Detention Center.

Mr. Hao Fengchun (50 years old), Ms. Chen Junxia (40s), and Mr. Xu Yonglin (60s) are all from Xijiangtou Village in the Nancai area of Beijing's Shunyi District. On the morning of January 29, 2008, police from the Shunyi Domestic Protection Division and the Nancai Police Station ransacked the practitioners' homes and took them to Shunyi's Nihe Detention Center. Their families have been refused the right to visit them. In March, the three practitioners were each secretly sentenced to two years of forced labor and then taken to Daxing for further persecution.

Falun Gong practitioner and PhD candidate at Qinghua University Ms. Wang Xin was sentenced to a nine-year term and imprisoned in Liaoyang's Huazi Prison. At the end of 2007 she was transferred to Dalian Prison. At the begining of 2008 Ms. Wang was placed into a confinement cell for resisting the brainwashing attempts to which she was being subjected in the prison.

In December 2007, Ms. Tu Xiaomin (reportedly 46 years old) was arrested by Xibahe Police Station officers in Beijing. She is now imprisoned at Huhehaote Women's Prison.

On March 15, practitioner Mr. Nie Guojun from Fumaying Village, Mucun Town, Fangzi District in the city of Weifang was arrested again, and taken to the Weifang Brainwashing Center for persecution. It happened shortly following Mr. Nie's release after having served two years of forced labor.

In the evening on March 19, 2008, practitioners Mr. Wu Guangyou and Mr. Zuo Shandong from Qianxiaodianzi Village in Honghua Town, Tancheng County, were arrested. Practitioner Ms. Wu Shaoxia was forced to leave home to avoid the persecution. Ms. Wu's daughter, though a non-practitioner, was also taken away but was later released. Ms. Wu's personal property, including a three-wheeled motorcycle, truth clarifying materials, and CDs, was also seized.

On March 2, 2008, the Changyi 610 Office and Beimeng Police Station ransacked practitioner Mr. Li Wenxiu's home. They took away a computer, a printer, and a CD burner. Currently Mr. Li has been forced to live a homeless existence in order to avoid further persecution.

Around 1 p.m. on March 7, 2008, practitioner Mr. Yang Guofu from Laizhou City was arrested in his home by police from the Domestic Protection Division. The police took away his computer, printer, truth clarifying materials, and satellite receiver.

In addition, practitioner Mr. Li Hongsen and his daughter, Ms. Li Xiaoyan, also a practitioner, were also arrested.

On March 22, five practitioners arrested in Mancheng County--Mr. Yin Baoyin, Ms. Yin Yuxian, Mr. Wang Haixu, Ms. Liu Xiuying, and Ms. Wei Yanli--were transferred to Taihang Prison in Hebei Province. Practitioner Mr. Wei Haihe is still being detained at the Mancheng County Public Security Bureau.

In early March 2008, Ms. Li Suzhen (58 years old) from Beizhai Village, Yangcun Town of Dingxing County was arrested when she went to Beijing to clarify the truth of Falun Gong. She is now in Dingxing County Detention Center.

On March 15, 2008, four to five policemen from Domestic Protection Division broke into the home of Ms. Sun Lianhui, in her 40s, and arrested her. The police also took away Falun Dafa books.

On the evening of March 8, 2008, police from the 610 Office arrested practitioner Ms. Li Jin at her home and took away her computer. Ms. Li is now detained in Xinhu Detention Center in Taicang.

On January 10, 2008, six to seven policemen from Boshulin Police Station in Xi'an City broke into a practitioner's home and looted 10,000 yuan along with many Falun Dafa books and pictures of the founder of Falun Dafa.

On the morning of March 7, 2008, ten people from the Ye County National Security Division's Changcun Town Police Station broke into the home of practitioner Mr. Huang Jinfeng, 56 years old, in Manziying Village in the Lilindian area of Changcun Town. The perpetrators also took away Mr. Huang's television, satellite antenna, a picture of the founder of Falun Dafa, and copies of the books of Falun Dafa. Mr. Huang's wife and a one-year-old granddaughter are left in the home.

On March 17, 2008, practitioners Ms. Li Jingpin, Mr. Zhu Guangyuan and Ms. Gu Gaoying were arrested and detained at the Wuhan Brainwashing Center.

Practitioner Mr. Jiang Donglin was arrested on March 18.

On March 11, 2008, practitioner Mr. Yuan Yingjiang from Hengshan Town, Qijiang County of Chongqing City, was arrested from his home by police from the Domestic Protection Division of the Qijiang County Public Security Bureau. The police also took away Falun Dafa books and cassettes. Yuan Yingjiang is currently being detained at the Qijiang County Detention Center.

Practitioner Mr. Li Houpei was arrested by police in Beijing in June 2007. In December 2007, he was secretly sentenced to 11 years of imprisonment. The authorities have still not notified his family.

Practitioners Mr. Peng Heping and Ms. Yang Wengui went to Suining to clarify the truth of Falun Gong on the morning of March 20. They were arrested by the police on their way home.

Around 10 p.m. on March 11, Feng Kun from the National Security Division of Pingjing and another two unidentified persons arrested practitioner Mr. Shan Bopei and seized copies of Falun Gong exercise cassettes along with Mr. Shan's phone book. Mr. Shan is now being detained in the county detention center.

Around 11 p.m. on March 11, about 20 people, including Li Kui from Yuping Town Police Station and County representatives of the National Security Division, broke into practitioner Ms. Zhu Xixian's home and looted Falun Gong materials, books, and other property. Ms. Zhu has been forced into homelessness to avoid further persecution.

In August 2007, 69-year-old practitioner Mr. Li Guirong from Wengniuteqi was arrested while he was distributing truth clarifying materials. On January 24, 2008, Wengniuteqi Court secretly sentenced Mr. Li to three years of imprisonment. On February 3, the court notified Mr. Li that his sentence had been changed from a three-year to a four-year-term.

On March 6, Mr. Sun Siye, who was working as the storage room guard of the Tancheng County Fireworks Company, was taken into custody by Hou Jianzhong of the Political Protection Section of Public Security. Sun Siye is now detained at the Tancheng Detention Center.

On March 20, practitioner couple Mr. Liu Guoliang and Ms. Wang Fenglian were arrested. They are now being detained at Daoli Police Station.

Around March 14, some Beijing residents received recorded phone messages threatening these citizens that if they were involved in any Falun Gong activities they would be taken away by police, with or without evidence, and detained for at least eight months until the end of the Olympic Games.
