Hawaii: Diverse Audience in Honolulu Experiences Oriental Legends (Photos)


(Clearwisdom.net) The Hawaiian Islands welcomed the premiere performance of the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular in Hawaii on the evening of April 21, 2008 at the Blaisdell Concert Hall in Honolulu.

University Professor: "More than 20 faculty members and students from my department came to see the Chinese Spectacular"

Professor Jon Goss works in the Department of Geography at the University of Hawaii. At the recommendation of a Chinese colleague, he and 20 other faculty members and students from his department attended the Chinese Spectacular on April 21. When interviewed, Professor Goss said, "The performance was remarkable! The costumes, in particular, were colorful and gorgeous. The dances were really beautiful."

Prof. Goss told the reporter that he was deeply impressed by the performance "Drummers of the Tang Court," and he was also appreciative of the dances "The Mongolian Bowl Dance" and "Water Sleeves": "They danced with coordination and in harmony, extremely beautiful."

When talking about the stories portrayed in the dances, Prof. Goss thought that "The Risen Lotus Flower" presented a very good story. His daughter Anise liked it, too. Prof. Goss thought the performance presented the message that Falun Gong [practitioners] are persecuted. He said that he had learned about the persecution of Falun Gong through the media. His colleagues have all learned about it. He thought it was interesting to use classical dance to portray modern subjects in the performance.

Shanghai immigrant: It's very good to promote Chinese culture

Mr. Xu and his wife immigrated from Shanghai to Hawaii over 30 years ago. They are both retired. At the end of the performance, they praised Divine Performing Arts for promoting Chinese culture. They thought every program in the Chinese Spectacular was excellent, and they enjoyed them all.

Immigrant from Japan: The story transmits a message of kindness

Car dealer Maurice Toma immigrated to Hawaii from Japan. After attending the Chinese Spectacular, he said that the performance was marvelous. The performance "Drummers of the Tang Court" reminded him of Japanese culture. The program "The Fruits of Goodness" impressed him deeply. He found the story transmitted a message of kindness. He also liked the music and songs in the performance.
