Additional Persecution News from China - May 14, 2008 (47 Reports)
(Clearwisdom.net) Today's report relates persecution incidents that took place in 39 cities
or counties in 13 provinces. Forty Falun Gong practitioners were subjected to
brutal mistreatment during detention, and at least 51 practitioners were illegally
arrested. 1. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Liu Shan Arrested Police arrested practitioner Mr. Liu Shan in front of his home at 8:00 a.m.
on May 13, 2008. His wife and son are under house arrest. 2. [Jilin Province] Three Practitioners Arrested Personnel from the Longtanshanqian Police Station arrested Ms. Zhang Zhenying
on the afternoon of May 12, 2008. Ms. Sun Jinghui and Mr. Zhao Yunhong from Jilin City were arrested on the
morning of April 24, 2008. 3. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Police Arrested Mr. Guo Gang Personnel from the Harbin City and Acheng City Domestic Security Divisions
arrested Mr. Guo Gang at 12:00 p.m. on January 25, 2008. They confiscated a
computer, a printer, a VCD, a stapler, and 1,300 yuan in cash. 4. [Weihai City, Shandong Province] Ms. Zhang Yingxian Arrested Ms. Zhang Yingxian was arrested on the morning of May 12, 2008 for
clarifying the truth about Falun Gong. 5. [Beijing] Ms. Zhao Xiumei Arrested Police arrested Huairou Adult Education Bureau cadre Ms. Zhao Xiumei on the
morning of May 13, 2008 at the gate of her child's school when she took her
child to school. They also ransacked her home. 6. [Liaoyuan, Jilin Province] Police Arrest Several Practitioners Personnel from the Domestic Security Division arrested Ms. Zhao Lijuan, Ms.
Li Min and her husband, Mr. Yu Donghui as well as Ms. Zheng Chunling and her
husband from Liaoyuan City. 7. [Yueyang City, Hunan Province] Several Practitioners Arrested Thirteen practitioners from Yueyang City have been arrested since March 3,
2008. According to an insider, these practitioners were severely tortured. They
were beaten and forced to ingest unknown substances. They were forced into small
compartments and their families are not permitted to visit them. Mr. Zhou Yongbing, Mr. Hu Heping, Mr. Ding Dongting, Mr. Zhou Xiangbao, Ms.
Shen Chunfang, Mr. Xue Zhongyi, Mr. Sun Pinghua and Mr. Zhang Jian are being
held in the Yueyang City Detention Center. Ms. Fu Dongxiu is being held in the
Yueyang County Detention Center. Ms. Liu Bilian is being held in the Yunxi
Detention Center. 8. [Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province] Mr. Yang Haidong Arrested in
April, Is Still Being Held in the Xingang Street Police Station Xingang Street Police Station: 86-20-84188449 9. [Huaibin County, Henan Province] Mr. Dai Xuebin and His Wife Ms. Zhu Jun
Arrested Fifty-year-old Mr. Dai Xuebin and his wife Ms. Zhu Jun used to work in the
Huaibin County Hospital. They moved to the Food Bureau Residential Compound in
Nanguan Street, Funan County, Anhui Province to avoid illegal arrest. Police
from Funan County arrested them and ransacked their rented home. They
confiscated a computer and some other personal belongings. Ten days after the
couple's arrest, Mr. Dai's family was made aware of the information. The
couple's whereabouts are unknown. 10. [Luohe City, Henan Province] Mr. Wang Jianwei Arrested Mr. Wang Jianwei from Linying County, Luohe City is disabled and leads a
difficult life by running a tricycle taxi. Officer Li Hui from the county's
Domestic Security Division arrested Mr. Wang on the afternoon of April 29, 2008
as he waited for customers in front of the county Health Care Department. 11. [Qixia City, Shandong Province] Ms. Lin Cui'e from Guandao Town Arrested 12. [Yi County, Liaoning Province] Police Arrested Ms. Yue Hui Officers including Chen Nailian from the Qianyang Township Police Station
arrested Ms. Yue Hui from Qianyang Township, Yi County at 10:30 a.m. on May 13,
2008. The police also ransacked another practitioner's home and confiscated some
Falun Gong books and exercise tapes. Qianyang Township Police Station: 86-416-7211110 13. [Liaoning Province] Mr. Meng Fanwei Held in the Tieling City Forced Labor
Camp Personnel from the Tieling City Police Department arrested Mr. Meng Fanwei on
April 4, 2008 when he distributed Falun Gong truth-clarifying materials. He has
been sentenced to two years of forced labor and is being held in the city's
forced labor camp. Tieling City Police Department Gongren Police Station: 86-410-4841644 14. [Liaoyuan City, Jilin Province] Several Practitioners Arrested Police arrested Mr. Li Fangjun and his wife Ms. Li Min from their fruit store
the night of May 11, 2008. The couple is being held in the Liaoyuan City
Detention Center. Police confiscated a computer, two cell phones, 2,000 yuan
cash and some fruit. Mr. Yu and his wife from the city's Party School and 46-year-old Ms. Zhao
Lijuan were arrested on May 11, 2008. 15. [Guizhou Province] Falun Gong Practitioner Mr. Li Arrested Police arrested a practitioner surnamed Li from Guizhou Province and got his
personal phone book. They also obtained Mr. Li's bank deposit card. 16. [Beizhen City, Liaoning Province] Two Practitioners Sentenced to Forced
Labor Personnel from the Beizhen City Police Department arrested Mr. Li Shuanghai
and Mr. Li Baozhong from Kulongtai Town and put them in the Jinzhou City Forced
Labor Camp. 17. [Chongqing] Ms. Liu Guibi Arrested Personnel from the Shuitu Town Police Station arrested Ms. Liu Guibi from
Wanshouqiao Village, Shuitu Town on the morning of May 9, 2008. 18. [Shouguang City, Shandong Province] Two Practitioners Arrested Personnel from the Yangkou Town Police Station in Shouguang City arrested Mr.
Guo Guanghui and Ms. Li Xiu'e at the end of April 2008. They recently arrested
two female practitioners and ransacked their homes. The police eventually
released them after strong requests from the practitioners' families. 19. [Yongning City, Ningxia Autonomous Region] Ms. Zhu Haiyan Held Beyond Her
Term Ms. Zhu Haiyan had been sentenced to three years in prison and should have
been released in April 2008. Personnel from the Ningxia Autonomous Region
Brainwashing Center put her in the Ningxia Brainwashing Center on April 20,
2008. Mr. Jiang Tao and his wife Ms. Zhu Haiyan from Yongning County were sentenced
to six years and three years in prison, respectively, on March 16, 2006; Ms. Cao
Guilan to four years in prison; Ms. Su Qingling to three and a half years in
prison. Ningxia Autonomous Region 610 Office Brainwashing Center: 86-951-5060205,
86-951-5060207 Ext. 11 20. [Shandong Province] Mr. Wang Zhenguo and Ms. Gao Arrested Personnel from the Changle County 610 Office arrested Mr. Wang
Zhenguo from Masong Street, Yingqiu Town, Changle County on May 5, 2008. They
also arrested Mr. Meng Zhaojun's wife Ms. Gao from Gutong Village, Honghe Town,
Changle County that same day. 21. [Heilongjiang Province] Police Harass Ms. Liu Caiduo's Family Four officers from the Qitaihe Police Department's Taoshan Police Station
broke into Ms. Liu Caiduo's home and confiscated five Falun Gong books at 8:30
a.m. on May 6, 2008. The police also ordered Ms. Liu's family to bring her to
police office within three days. 22. [Macheng City, Hubei Province] Ms. Zhao Yunhua Arrested in Beijing Ms. Zhao Yunhua from Macheng City went to Beijing to visit a relative but was
arrested in the Haidian District on February 9, 2008. Ms. Zhao was then taken to
the Houshajian Detention Center in Sujiatuo, even though she was in poor health
and her blood pressure was high. 23. [Baoji City, Shaanxi Province] Mr. Duan Baojun Arrested A Falun Gong truth-clarifying materials production site was damaged and all
machines were confiscated at the end of April 2008. Personnel from the Weibin
District Police Department arrested Mr. Duan Baojun. Mr. Duan is being held in
the Phoenix Grand Hotel. Weibin District Police Department in Baoji City: 86-917-3323176 24. [Duolun County, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region] Ms. Chen Shuli Arrested Personnel from the Qiaoxi Police Station in Duolun County broke into Ms. Chen
Shuli's Dress Store at 4:00 p.m. on May 12, 2008. They searched the store and
confiscated several CDs. They arrested Ms. Chen and Ms. Sun who was working in
the store, but released her later. Li Haifeng, Political and Judicatory Committee: 86-13947966698 25. [Jixi City, Heilongjiang Province] Two Practitioners Arrested Two female practitioners were illegally arrested at the Mudanjiang Train
Station at noon on May 12, 2008. 26. [Rizhao City, Shandong Province] Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Cong Guiping
Arrested Ms. Cong Guiping, 62, was stopped in the street. Two police officers jumped
out of a police car at 10:00 a.m. on May 13, 2008 and detained her. The officers
frisked her but could not find anything Falun Gong-related. Nevertheless, they
forced Cong Guiping into the car and drove off. Her current whereabouts are
unknown. 27. [Anshan City, Liaoning Province] Practitioner Mr. Long Baoqing Arrested Practitioner Mr. Long Baoqing from Xiuyan County was arrested on the morning
of May 13, 2008. 28. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Police Arrested Practitioner Mr. Liu
Wei at Xianghong Elementary School in Xiangfang District Practitioner Mr. Liu Wei was reported to the police when he discussed Falun
Gong at Xianghong Elementary School in Xiangfang District, Harbin City. Officers
from Xiangfang District Domestic Security Division arrested him from the school
on May 9 and sent him to Xiangfang Police Department. Liu Wei later broke free
with the power of his righteous thoughts. He and his cousin are currently living
away from home to avoid further persecution. Xianghong Elementary School: 86-451-55101341 29. [Anshan City, Liaoning Province] Practitioner Ms. Jiang Yan Arrested Practitioner Ms. Jiang Yan, 51, lived in Tiexi District, Anshan City. She was
arrested in mid March 2008 after being reported to the police. Her current
whereabouts are unknown. 30. [Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province] Update on Recent Arrests of Falun Gong
Practitioners Practitioner Ms. Zhang Xiulan worked at a textile factory. While incarcerated
at the No. 1 Detention Center in Jinzhou City, she has developed a fist-sized
uterine tumor. Practitioner Mr. Guo Liguang was found to have a metal clamp in his stomach
when he was sent to Masanjia Forced Labor Camp, so the camp authorities refused
to accept him. He was returned to the No. 1 Detention Center in Jinzhou City. Practitioner Mr. Hu Yuyuan, employed at a heavy machinery factory, is also
being held at the No. 1 Detention Center in Jinzhou City and has suffered a
persecution-induced nervous breakdown. Li Tingyin, Taihe Police Department head: 86-416-5179369 Song Alai, Taihe Police Department deputy head: 86-13904068661 31. [Chifeng City, Neimenggu Province] Three Practitioners Sentenced to
Prison Practitioners Ms. Jiang Yanqin and 59-year-old Ms. Jiang Yanfen were arrested
in January 2007 when distributing Falun Gong materials at a village. Their homes
were subsequently ransacked and Falun Gong materials were seized. Practitioner
Yu Shuyan's non-practitioner husband was arrested along with Mr. Liu Hong and
Jiang Yanqin's brother Mr. Jiang Yanguo. They were later released. (Ms. Yu
Shuyan, 40, worked at Dajing Silver and Copper Mine in Linxi County, Chifeng
City.) In January 2008, Linxi County court officials sentenced Yu Shuyan to eight
years in prison; Jiang Yanqin was sentenced to four years in prison, and Jiang
Yanfen was sentenced to one year in prison. Yu Shuyan and Jiang Yanqin are
currently being subjected to abuses at Huhehaote Women's Prison in Inner
Mongolia Autonomous Region. Jiang Yanfen has been held at the Linxi Custody Center since January 2007,
where she has been persecuted. She suffered a relapse of high blood pressure and
a brain hemorrhage in mid December 2007 and can no longer take care of herself. 32. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Two Practitioners Severely
Persecuted at the Qianjin Forced Labor Camp Officials at the Qianjin Forced Labor Camp severely beat practitioner Ms. Guo
Chunping from Shuangcheng City right before May 12 and denied her family
visitation rights. Another female practitioner cannot walk after a savage
beating. 33. [Huangmei County, Hubei Province] Practitioners Ms. Liu Yahua and Mr.
Zhang Dacheng Arrested for Handing Out Falun Gong Materials Practitioners Ms. Liu Yahua and Mr. Zhang Dacheng from Huangmei County were
arrested at 1:00 a.m. on May 13, 2008 when handing out Falun Gong flyers in the
street. They are currently held at the Shili Custody Center. Huangmei County Police Department: 86-713-3332224, 86-713-3325881 34. [Balinzuoqi, Inner Mogolia Autonomous Region] Practitioner Ms. Chen
Yanping Arrested Practitioner Ms. Chen Yanping from Balinzuoqi was arrested by a group of
police and national security agents including Li Bing, Du Yi and Na Shun on May
7. She is held at the Balinzuoqi Detention Center and is currently on a protest
hunger strike. Her non-practitioner brother was also arrested and held at
Balinzuoqi Detention Center. Gao Yanguo, 610 Office agent: 86-476-7860027, 86-476-7885202, 86-13948767707 Nine officers including a few from the Shulan City Police Department's
Domestic Security Division, Fate Town Party secretary Yang Shujuan, and police
department head Zhang Yaoming broke into the home of 72-year-old practitioner
Mr. Wang Yuli. Only his wife, 72-year-old Ms. Li Shuqin was home. They broke the
locks on boxes and ransacked the home. Li Shuqin fainted, and her daughter and
daughter-in-law rushed her to the hospital. The town government also sent four
women's association representatives [an organization controlled by the Communist
Party] to the hospital to keep watch on Li Shuqin. They stayed at the hospital
until past 6:00 p.m. The officers confiscated the following items: a copying machine, a fax
machine, a paper cutting machine, a stapler, a large and a small satellite dish,
200 VCDs, eight boxes of paper, Falun Gong flyers, books, and audio cassettes,
two radios, one small TV set, one DVD player, one electric heater, one electric
radiator, two pairs of pliers, one bronze Buddha statue, more than 20 copper
coins, one emerald, two copper locks, one gold nugget, and two mobile phones.
The overall worth of property the police had confiscated is more than 10,000
yuan [US$1,250]. The police and village officials are still pursuing Wang Yuli. 36. [Xianning city, Hubei Province] Update on Persecution of Practitioner
Wang Lidi and Others Practitioners Mr. Wang Lidi, Mr. Xu Changhong and Mr. Yu Jinguang appealed
their verdicts during a second trial on May 10, 2006. The trial did not reach
any verdict. Eventually, all three practitioners were sentenced to prison after
being held at the Xianning City Detention Center for more than seven months.
Wang Lidi was sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison and taken to the
Fanjiatai Prison in Shayang; Xu Changhong was sentenced to three years in prison
and was first held at the Qinduankou Prison in Wuhan City for six months before
being taken to the Fanjiatai Prison. Yu Jinguang was sentenced to
three-and-a-half years in prison. He was first held at Qinduankou Prison for
nearly six months before being transferred to the Fanjiatai Prison. Li Ming: head of Fanjiatai Prison in Shayang, Jingmen City, 86-13972881189 Practitioner Mr. Ren Xinqiong was arrested along with several other
practitioners. Officers from the Kai County National Security Bureau
participated in the arrest on May 12, 2008. Liu Limin, Kai County National Security Bureau head: 86-23-52124999, 86- Practitioner Ms. Gao Huifang who worked at Hunan University of Science and
Technology in Xiangtan City has had 700 yuan of her salary withheld each month
since May 2003. A practitioner went to visit Gao Huifang in May 2003 after explaining the
facts about Falun Gong. The officials used that as a pretext for the salary
deduction. Gao Huifang was reported to the police in 2004 for talking about Falun Gong
to others and handing out flyers. Her home was ransacked, she was held for ten
days and her ID was also taken away from her. Officer Zhai Qingguo led a group of people who broke into Gao Huifang's home
on March 10, 2008. They told her not to contact other Falun Gong practitioners
or they would withhold all of her salary. They also threatened to lock her up. 39. [Huludao City, Liaoning Province] Practitioners Mr. Zhao Liang, Ms. Yang
Hong and Mr. Huang Lizhong Face Illegal Trial Practitioners Mr. Zhao Liang, Ms. Yang Hong and Mr. Huang Lizhong are
currently threatened with an illegal trial at the Lianshan District Court. Lianshan District Court Head office in Huludao City: 86-429-2160072 Lianshan District Court deputy head: 86-429-2160821 40. [Shulan City, Jilin Province] Practitioner Mr. Che Xingchuan and
Others Arrested Practitioner Mr. Che Xingchuan, 72, took the No. 1 Bus to his son's home in
the afternoon to get a rice cooker on January 31, 2007. Right after he got off
the bus, several police officers arrested him and took him to the Domestic
Security Division at the local police department. They handcuffed him in a chair
and searched him, took his personal address book and mobile phone, subsequently
ransacked his home and held him for one month. Officers from the Tianhe Police Department waited outside practitioner Ms.
Tai Lijuan's home at 8:00 a.m. on April 29, 2008. Practitioners Ms. Zhang Yue
and Mr. Cao Zhiwen went to visit Tai Lijuan. Several police officers jumped over
the wall into the yard and subsequently ransacked the home. They took an MP3
player, an MP4 player and a headset. Tai Lijuan had a stroke due to being
suddenly frightened. The officers also arrested Zhang Yue and Cao Zhiwen. Practitioner Mr. Niu Yuhui was reported when visiting relatives at his
hometown. He was followed by the police. Officers from the Tiande Police
Department and from the Beicheng Police Department arrested him on April 17,
2008 and took 5,000 yuan cash, two computers, one color printer and two PDAs. 41. [Beijing] Practitioner Mr. Wang Xingshu and Others Arrested The following practitioners were recently arrested: Mr. Wang Xingshu, Ms. He
Xiuying, Ms. Wen Zhen, Mr. Diao Chunming and his wife, Mr. Gou Jinzhang, and Ms.
Zhang Lanying from Miyun County. They are currently held at the Miyun County
Detention Center. Practitioners Wang Xingshu, He Xiuying and Wen Zhen lived in Tanying Township
and were arrested on April 24. Diao Chunming and his wife lived in Nanzhai
Township in Henan Province. They were arrested on May 3, 2008. Gou Jinzhang and
Zhang Lanying lived in Mujiayu Town and were arrested on May 4. 42. [Huangshi City, Hubei Province] Arrest of Three Practitioners Officers from Linjiang Police Department in Huangshi City went to the home of
50-year-old practitioner Ms. Zhang Maonu on Zhongyao Hospital Street. The
incident happened at 10:00 a.m. on May 6, 2008. They knocked on the door and
Zhang Maonu opened it. The police barged in and arrested her. Once at the
Linjiang Police Department, she was told that another practitioner Ms. Xu Guilan
was also arrested at 10:00 a.m. on May 6, 2008. A third practitioner was locked
in another room. It's possible that it was 68-year-old Ms. Li Suzhen who also
lived on Zhongyao Hospital Street. 43. [Yishui County, Shandong Province] Yaodianzi Town Officials Harass
Practitioners at Their Homes Recently, officials from the Yaodianzi town government harassed practitioners
at their homes using the pretext of "home visit." 44. [Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province] Practitioner Ms. Li Wei's Husband
Arrested Officers from the Zhujiangdao Police Department arrested Ms. Li Wei. They set
a trap and arrested her husband the next evening. Their five-year-old son is
left at home alone. 45. [Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province] Practitioner Mr. Wang Buqing Detained Practitioner Mr. Wang Buqing from Chengnan, Nanjing City was followed and
arrested by the police when handing out Falun Gong flyers at the Xiaguan Market
on May 11, 2008. He is currently held at the Xiaoshi Police Department. 46. [Yunnan Province] Practitioner Ms. Kuang Deying Held at the Qiaojia
County Detention Center Ms. Kuang Deying was arrested on April 14, 2008. Participating in the arrest
were Qiaojia County National Security 610 Office agents and officers from
Panlong District Police Department and Jiangan Police Department in Kunming
City. Ms. Kuang has been taken to the Qiaojia County Detention Center. Peng Hong, Qiaojia County 610 Office head: 86-1370861825 Jiangan Police Department: 86-871-2997747 47. [Guangan City, Sichuan Province] Police Frequently Harass 82-year-old
Practitioner Mr. Fang Shaohua In April 2008, officers from the Guangan City Domestic Security Bureau, from
the Shisun Police Department and those from the Baishi Town government harassed
82-year-old practitioner Mr. Fang Shaohua three times. They ransacked his home
