Study the Fa with a Calm Mind
By a practitioner in China
(Clearwisdom.net) Fa study is very important for me, as a
Dafa practitioner, and should be the best thing for me, as during Fa study I
assimilate myself into the Fa. But sometimes I am unwilling to study the Fa.
Having worked all day long, I still need to study the Fa and cannot get my mind
focused on Fa study--even when I want to. At these times I remember Master's
words: "When it comes to Fa-study, though, I think you still need to squeeze
in time for study, even if it means for a little while only. But when you
squeeze in time for study there's a problem that's apt to come up: you can't
calm your mind, and if you can't calm your mind, you're in fact studying in
vain and wasting time. If you're going to study, you need to set aside
everything else that's on your mind, keep your mind steady, quiet your mind,
and truly study. Even if you just study a few paragraphs [this way], it's
better than reading the entire book with a restless mind. When you study the
Fa, you have to absorb it." ("Teaching the Fa at the Meeting with
Asia-Pacific Students," April 12, 2004) I sometimes think, "I have already spent some time studying the Fa
today. I can wait for tomorrow to study the Fa again." At my current level
of cultivation, I understand that since Master emphasizes the importance of Fa
study with a calm mind, then when I can't get my mind focused on Fa study or do
not want to study the Fa, aren't these the times I should search within? Am I
really unwilling to assimilate myself into the Fa? Of course not! Then it must
be thought karma and various kinds of strange notions and bad elements
interfering with me. It is these notions that are struggling for survival that we should purge in
our cultivation. Those are the exact times for us to cultivate and make them
disappear. These are some of my personal understandings I wanted to share with fellow
practitioners. June 12, 2008
