Jilin City Authorities Conduct Arrests in the Name of Protecting the Olympics


(Clearwisdom.net) To prepare for the Olympic Torch arriving in Jilin City on July 15, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) authorities started massive arrests of people two months prior. People targeted for arrest included dissenters who criticized the CCP's corruption, those who protested their homes being demolished by the authorities without permission, laid-off workers, and people of spiritual conviction, including Falun Gong practitioners.

In a span of two months, Jilin City 610 Office agents arrested more than 100 Falun Gong practitioners. The police broke into the practitioners' homes without any legal documents. They took the practitioners away and did not tell the families where they would be detained.

At around 6:00 a.m. on July 7, 2008, officers from Changchun Street Police Station illegally arrested practitioner Ms. Wang Ying and then ransacked her home. Police from the Longjing City Domestic Security Division and Anmin Street Police Station arrested Ms. Ji Jinyu, who is in her 60s, as she was walking down the street. The police later ransacked her home, and took away her daughter's laptop computer and other personal items. Physical abuse by the police left Ms. Ji's legs covered in bruises. On July 9, the CCP authorities sentenced Ms. Ji to one year of forced labor and sent her to the Heizuizi Women's Prison in Changchun City.

At around :002 p.m. on July 10, police from Yuebei Police Station and Changyi Domestic Security Division arrested practitioner Ms. Ma Li while she was at work. They took away more than 7,000 yuan in cash, a bank deposit book, a photocopying machine, and a printer. The police also ransacked her home and took away her laptop computer. Ms. Ma is currently detained at the Jilin City Detention Center.

At around 3:30 p.m. on July 11, police from Jilin City Public Security Bureau, Changyi Branch, Dongjuzi police station arrested practitioner Ms. Mi Hong and ransacked her home. The police also took away Ms. Mi's daughter, who had just finished taking college entrance exams, to the Dongjuzi police station.

In the afternoon of July 11, four more practitioners were arrested.

At around 12:30 p.m. on July 12, police from the Third Brigade of the Criminal Police Division in Chuanying District arrested practitioner Ms. Yang Shuhua, her sister, and another practitioner Ms. Du Hongfang in the Qingfeng Residential Area in Chuanying District of Jilin City.

On July 13, police arrested practitioner Ms. Feng, who lives in the Furniture Factory Residential Area.

On July 13, police officer Qi Guoqiang and five officers from the Tongjiang Police Station in Changyi District arrested practitioner Ms. Qi Yanming and ransacked her home. She was taken to the Tongjiang Police Station. There are several other practitioners detained there.

On July 13, police from the Xinshu Street Police Station, formerly called the Yushugou Police Station, arrested practitioner Dong Dianqing and his wife, and then ransacked their home.
