(Clearwisdom.net) Today's News from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 37 cities or counties in 12 provinces. In this report, 12 practitioners were subjected to brutal mistreatment during their detention and at least 61 practitioners were illegally arrested.

At around 3:00 p.m. on July 28, 2008, officials of the No. 853 Farm in Baoqing County, Heilongjiang Province took into custody seven practitioners, including Mr. Zhu Mingjun and Ms. Liu Junying in Baoqing County and Ms. Liu Shuling in the Qitaihe area. Details on the other four practitioners are not available.

At around 4:30 on August 4, members of the 610 Office climbed over a wall to break into Ms. Zhang Shuchun's home. The officers carried iron and rubber clubs and searched Ms. Zhang's home but did not find anything. They then rushed to Ms. Zhang's brother-in-law's home. The searched the place, confiscated truth-clarification DVDs, and took into custody Ms. Zhang's brother-in-law and his wife, both non-practitioners.

At around 11:00 a.m. on July 5, 2008, four or five officers arrived at Ms. Wen Ruihua's home in Wenzhuang Village, Dongjiuzhai Town, Zunhua City, under the jurisdiction of Tangshan City, Hebei Province. The officers searched Ms. Wen's home and dragged her into a police vehicle. Ms. Wen has been held in a brainwashing center within the Xiguan Detention Center in the Zunhua area.

At around 10:30 a.m. on August 6, 2008, four officers from the Xiaochengzi Town Police Station in Kangping County broke into Ms. Wang Jinfeng's home. The officers confiscated a notebook computer, a laser printer, a Canon printer, and some supplies. Ms. Wang managed to escape.

On the afternoon of July 27, Mr. Huang Yueming, 58, was taken into custody while distributing truth-clarification materials. His home was searched. Mr. Huang is being held at the Zhongshan Detention Center.

Ms. Liu Ruanping, 43, was a former employee of Yuanshe County Native Products. She had been held at the Yanhe Detention Center in Jiaozuo City since she was taken into custody in July 2007. In July 2008, Ms. Liu was unlawfully sentenced to eight years in prison. She has been taken to Xinxiang Women's Prison.

Ms. Li Guirong from Bo'ai County, 53, was a retired employee in the county food system. On October 12, 2007, Ms. Li was taken into custody. She was released 20 hours later after she did not pass a physical examination and was not admitted for custody. The police continued to harass her. In mid-March 2008, she was forced to leave town. Her whereabouts are unknown.

Ms. Liu Qingzhu was taken into custody on June 14, 2008. Recently, she was unlawfully sentenced to one year in prison. She is being held in Shibalihe Prison in Henan Province.

On the evening of July 29, officers from the Huaiyang County Police Department, members of the 610 Office, and officers from the Beiguan Police Station launched a coordinated campaign to arrest practitioners. Mr. Wang Xianhuai, Mr. Li Shouyi, Mr. Wang Heping (who could have escaped), Mr. Su Zhenhua, and several other practitioners were taken into custody. Their homes were unlawfully searched.

At 10:00 p.m. on July 16, officers from the Weijiazhuang Police Station in Jinan City broke into Professor Zhang Xingwu's home. They confiscated a large number of personal items, cash, and bank cards. The took into custody Mr. Zhang Xingwu and his wife, Ms. Liu Pinjie. Ms. Liu displayed severe illness symptoms and could not take care of herself. After a full day of custody at the local police station, Ms. Liu was released on medical parole after being forced to pay 10,000 yuan.

Recently, Ms. Liu and her younger sister went to the Weijiazhuang Police Station to demand the release of Mr. Zhang and the return of personal items. The police unlawfully detained Ms. Liu for a month despite the fact that she was on medical parole and her blood pressure was high.

Mr. Huang Yubin from Hebei Province was working odd jobs for Renda Construction and Development Company in Anshan City at the Mingshihuating construction site. At noon on July 3, he was taken into custody by Dayu Police Station officers. Mr. Huang is being held at the Benxi Detention Center. Detention officials have denied family visits.

Ms. Shao Min, who lives in Bunan Village in Jinling Town, Zhaoyuan City, was unlawfully taken into custody on August 4, 2008. She is being held in a dark room at the Lingnan Gold Mine Brainwashing Center in Zhaoyuan City, where she has been deprived of sleep around the clock.

At around 9:00 a.m. on August 4, Ms. Yu Jieling and Ms. Liu Huirong were taken into custody while they were clarifying the truth in Dunsuo Town. The two practitioners are being held at the Gaozhou City No. 2 Detention Center. Ms. Liu's home was searched on August 4. The police confiscated a large number of Falun Dafa books, truth-clarification materials, and personal items.

Ms. Yu Qiongfang from the Dashiba area in Jiangbei District of Chongqing went to visit her younger sister in Neijiang City, Sichuan Province. The police in Neijiang City took her into custody while she was clarifying the truth.

On the afternoon of August 5, 2008, Ms. Li Xiu and Ms. Zhang Yugai were turned in to the police while they were distributing truth-clarification materials. Officers from the Zhuozhou City Domestic Security Division took them into custody. The police confiscated Falun Dafa books, two cellular phones, and two MP3 players.

At around 7:00 p.m. on August 4, 2008, a dozen plainclothes police officers broke into Mr. Tang Peilin's home. They confiscated Falun Dafa books and took him into custody. Mr. Tang is an employee of the Wind-Power Machinery Factory in Xiangtan City.

Ms. Li Mian, who lives in Hedong District, and Ms. Wang Xingchun, who lives in the Chenyang Garden residential community, were turned in to the police while they were posting truth-clarification materials near the Binjiangdao area on the morning of August 6. Their homes were searched at around 5:00 p.m. on August 6. The police confiscated Falun Dafa books and personal items. Ms. Li and Ms. Wang are being held at the Binjiangdao Police Station.

On July 27, 2008, Mr. Wang Guolin and his wife, Ms. Fang Rongxiang, who live in Xinzhou District, Shangrao City, were followed by plainclothes police officers while the two were distributing truth-clarification materials. Eight officers later showed up at the couple's home. The officers then searched the homes of the couple's two sons and took their daughter Ms. Wang Suzhen, also a practitioner, into custody.

Mr. Wang Guolin and Ms. Wang Suzhen are being held at the Huangshatang Detention Center. Ms. Fang Xiangrong has been transferred to the Shangrao County Detention Center.

Ms. Guo Fuyun and two other practitioners in Wanggezhuang Village, Songgezhuang Township, Laishui County, were taken into custody this month. Three other practitioners in the Huguozhuang area in Laishui County were also taken into custody this month. It has been reported that these practitioners are being held at the Laishui County Shooting Range.

On the evening of July 21, Ms. Li Ling, a staff member at the Longkou City Hospital, was taken into custody. The police searched her home at around 11:00 p.m. the same night. On July 22, Ms. Jiang Limei was taken into custody at work at the Longkou City Hospital. The two practitioners are being held at the Zhangjiagou Detention Center.

On the afternoon of July 30, a dozen officers from the Fangzhuang Township Police Station in Gucheng County suddenly searched homes of practitioners in Dawumao Village. Ms. Shen Yingchun and Ms. Sui Xiuhui were taken into custody at their homes. The police confiscated a set of Falun Dafa cassette tapes. Ms. Shen and Ms. Su were taken to the police station and transferred to the Gucheng County Detention Center on the morning of July 31. Ms. Shen had 1,600 "yuan" in cash extorted from her.

On July 6, 2007, Mr. Liu Jianmin, who lives in the metropolis of Neihuang County, was taken into custody by officers led by Xie Gui'en, head of the Neihuang County Domestic Security Division. Mr. Liu was held at the Neihuang County Custody Center for 15 days. He has since remained at the Neihuang County Detention Center.

Ms. Chai Xiumei, 44, was an employee of the Renqiu City No. 1 Paper Manufacturing Factory. She lives in Liujie Village on Xinhua Road, Renqiu City. She worked for a proprietor after the paper factory went bankrupt. She was unlawfully sentenced to three years of forced labor after 1999. She was held at the Renqiu City Detention Center for five months and in the Kaiping Forced Labor Camp in Tangshan City for over a year. Her husband, Mr. Chen Fenglei, was arrested several times. In 2000, he was sentenced to five years in prison and held in Baoding Prison. Mr. Chen returned home in October 2005. On June 9, 2006, he was again sentenced to four years in prison by the Renqiu Court. He is now in Jidong Prison in Tangshan City.

As the Beijing Olympic Games approached, the director of the former paper manufacturing factory and officers from the Xinhua Road Police Station harassed Ms. Chai several times.

Ms. Wang Wenjuan is an employee of the Nu'erhe Textile Factory in Jinzhou City. At around 7:00 a.m. on August 6, officers from the Taihe Police Department and from the Nu'erhe Police Station took her into custody. The officers also confiscated two printers, a dozen boxes of paper, many copies of Falun Dafa books, and a box of DVDs. It is not clear where Ms. Wang has been taken.

A few days ago, the Guye District Court held secret hearings and sentenced Ms. Bi Junqing to eight years in prison and Ms. Wang Shouping to seven years in prison. Ms. Bi and Ms. Wang are in the Tangshan City No. 1 Detention Center. They are appealing their sentences.

At around 11:00 a.m. on August 3, the director of the Dongliang Police Station and other officers arrived in many police vehicles to block all roads that led to Tianjia Village in Dongliang Town. The police arrested Mr. Xu Chi and his wife, Ms. Han Caiqin (who is not a practitioner), who had returned to visit Mr. Xu's parents. Mr. Xu and Ms. Han are being held at the Fuxin County Detention Center.

On the afternoon of August 4, members of the Xixia City 610 Office and officials of the Xixia City People's Hospital took into custody Ms. Zhang Shaofei, a nurse who works at the hospital. Ms. Zhang is being held at a brainwashing center.

Between August 3 and August 5 (just before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Beijing on August 8), the Anren County police took into custody Mr. Fan Sanyou and Ms. Li Hualin for no reason. Both Mr. Fan and Ms. Li, in their 50s, are kindhearted farmers.

Ms. Ji Fangrong, 60, from Nanshan District, Hegang City, was taken into custody in mid-July. The police confiscated a computer and a photocopier in her home.

Ms. Xie Xianglan, 76; Ms. Wen Fei, 72; and Mr. Gong Guidong in Xing'an District, Hegang City, were taken into custody in mid-July.

On the afternoon of July 30, Han Jiang (male), Party Secretary of the Tumenzi Township Political and Judiciary Committee in Qinglong County, Huangdao City; Wang Haiwei (male); and other officers from the police station searched Ms. Li Yuge's home in Zhushiling Village. The officers confiscated Falun Dafa books, a cassette recorder, a VCD player, and a satellite dish. Ms. Li was taken to a detention center.

On August 3, 2008, Ms. Li Huijuan, 40, was turned in to the police while she was distributing truth-clarification materials and clarifying the truth in Hongwei Coal Mine. State security officers in Leiyang City took her into custody and searched her home. Ms. Li is being held at the Leiyang City Detention Center.

In addition, on May 20, 2008, Ms. Wu Donghua, in her 60s, was taken to a detention center. She remains in custody.

On August 2, Ms. Liu Guihua, who lives in Pingdingbao Town in Guyuan County, Zhangjiakou City, was taken to the Xiaohezi Brainwashing Center.

It has been verified that the following practitioners are also being held at the brainwashing center: Ms. Sun Sulan from Gaoshanbao Township, Mr. Xiao Jianping from the Transportation Department, Ms. Zhang Fengli, Ms. Zhou Peihua, Ms. Li Chang'e, Ms. Li Guiling, and Ms. Liu, all from Huanggaizhuo Township. The names of two other elderly practitioners there are not known.

Ms. Zhao Yuhui, around 60 years old, has retired from the Huludao Chemical Factory. On July 31, the Chemical Police Station took her away from home upon receiving reports. Ms. Zhao is being held at the Xingcheng Detention Center.

At around 10:00 a.m. on August 4, 2008, Mr. Gai Guangqi, who lives in Nanbo Village in Jiangtuanta Village, Laiyang City, was taken into custody in front of the store he owned. Officers from the Laiyang City Police Department and the 610 Office made the arrest.

Mr. Chai Shuhui, around 40 years old, lives in Dadaozhuang Village, Mingyuedian Town, Dingzhou City. At 9:00 p.m. on August 2, village officials led officers from the the Mingyuedian Police Station to Mr. Chai's home. The officers searched Mr. Chai's home, took him to the police station, and beat him. Mr. Chai is now in the detention center.

Mr. Wu Fengquan and his brother, Mr. Wu Fenglin, live in Xindu District, Chengdu City. At around 11:00 p.m. on July 26, 2008, they were taken into custody in Zhuyou Township in Banzhuyuan Town, Xindu District, by officers from the Banzhuyuan Police Station.

At around 11:00 a.m. on July 27, Chen Dequan broke into the brothers' homes to take pictures. At around 2:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m., the police broke into the brothers' homes again. They confiscated a notebook computer, a tape recorder, cellular phones, a motorcycle, and many books and stacks of paper. The police coerced the families to sign off on the list of confiscated items.
