Police Arrest Practitioners "Because of the Olympics" (Songyuan City, Fuyu County, Jilin Province)

Since May 21, 2008, the police departments of Jilin Province and Songyuan City have been secretly arresting Falun Gong practitioners in Songyuan City and its subordinate district under the pretext of Olympics "security." Many practitioners in Fuyu County have been arrested. On July 11, 2008, Songyuan City and Fuyu County police executed another round of arrests and harassment involving practitioners in Fuyu County.

On May 21, 2008, Fuyu County practitioner Mr. Shao Changpu and Ms. Fu Lihong were arrested in Songyuan City. Right afterwards, Songyuan City police ransacked Mr. Shao's home in Fuyu County and arrested his younger sister. Mr. Shao and Ms. Fu were detained in the detention center in Songyuan City. They were only given two meals a day and forced to work but not paid. Ms. Fu is starving and has become very skinny. Mr. Shao was sentenced to one year of forced labor and transferred to Changchun City Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp.

Practitioners Zhu Decai, Wang Yuanzhang, Yan Xianyu, Liu Qing, and others and Chen Lixin (not a practitioner) were also arrested and are now in Yinmahe Forced Labor Camp in Jiutai City. Practitioners Liu Shuqin, Gao Mian, Xu Hui, Ms. Zhang Hongqin, Ms. Wang Shuqin, Ms. Mou Guiling, and others are in Heizuizi Labor Camp in Changchun City.

On July 11, 2008, after midnight, Songyuan City and Fuyu County police officers were led by the security directors of the villages to execute another round of arrests and harassment against Falun Gong practitioners in Fuyu County. Ms. Wang Jinxia from Zhangbao Village, Caijiagou Town, was arrested and is now being detained in the Fuyu Detention Center. Li Xiaohui from Sanchahe Town was arrested by Daoxi Street Police Station police and is now in Fuyu County Detention Center. Wang Enhui from Yushugou escaped with strong righteous thoughts. The police also harassed and arrested others in town who had practiced Falun Gong before.

It has been said that the police implemented the arrests according to lists they collected before 1999. Some of the people on the lists had stopped practicing or had passed away, but the police didn't give up harassing their families, and sometimes took them away anyway.
