Jiang Derong in Critical Condition at Daqing City Prison

(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Jiang Derong, a practitioner from Chengfeng Village, Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province, is an employee of the Thermal Stabilization Subsidiary Company of the Daqing Petroleum Administrative Bureau Installation Company.

In early May 2002, a group of police officers led by Kang Yanfeng, the Political Security Section chief of the Police Department of the Ranghu Road area in Daqing City, went to Mr. Jiang's home to arrest him.

When the police arrived, neighbors started to gather outside to see what was going on. The arresting officers deceived them by saying that they were called in to prevent Mr. Jiang from killing his parents. Soon fire fighters showed up to break a window so the police could enter. Mr. Jiang was arrested and illegally sentenced to seven years in the Hongweixing Prison in Daqing City.

On January 26, 2006, warden Wang Yongxiang took Mr. Jiang and fellow practitioners, Mr. Jia Shenghui, Mr. Sun Jianbin, Mr. Wang Yudong, Mr. Jin Sheng, and others, out in public and mercilessly beat them. When Wang was done, he took them back to the prison and locked them up in solitary confinement.

When practitioners at the prison heard what happened, they started a hunger strike to protest the warden's actions. Soon, warden Wang convinced prison hospital directors Gao Qing and Huang Zhiwei to force-feed the practitioners with saline water once a day.

About a year ago, Mr. Jiang started showing signs of pulmonary tuberculosis - a direct result of the physical and mental abuse he suffered at the prison.

When his condition flared up, he was taken to the Longna Hospital, where they pumped out fluid that had accumulated in his chest cavity. But because this treatment is not available at the prison, he became very emaciated and found it difficult to speak and walk. When he wanted to sleep, he had to do it in a prone position, as he found it difficult to breathe while laying down. His life was in great danger.

On several occasions his family members tried to bail him out for medical treatment. But due to the extensive red tape they were forced to go through to secure his release, they never succeeded.

The parties responsible for persecuting Mr. Jiang refused to be held accountable for his near-death condition and simply passed the responsibility back and forth to each other. Only now--almost a year later--have they finally released him for medical treatment.

We hope that human rights organizations and people from around the world will pay close attention to this matter and help Mr. Jiang be released immediately and unconditionally.
