BEIJING, Mar 8, 2001 -- (Agence France Presse) Six members of the outlawed Falun Gong spiritual group in northeastern China have been charged with the illegal printing and distribution of materials , state press reported Thursday.

The six were arrested last month in Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning province and formally charged on Tuesday for attempting to distribute over 40,000 Falun Gong books and tapes, the Liaoning Daily reported.

Police in Shenyang's Heping district cracked down on the group after seeing a large number of Falun Gong leaflets posted on the streets, the report said.

Wang Yaping, Chi Lihua and Xu Dawei were singled out as the ringleaders of the group, which had bought printers and photocopying machines to illegally produce the leaflets, it said.
