Dear Prime Minister:

I am writing once again to express my concern about Chinese President Jiang Zemin's persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China. I wrote to you on August 15, 2001, regarding the plight of Mr. Shenli Lin, a Falun Gong practitioner who was arrested in China.

I had the opportunity to meet with Mr. Shenli Llin, on March 4, 2002 in my constituency office. Mr.Shenli Lin's experience in prison was one of persecution both spiritually and physically. He had been arrested and jailed without a trial and routinely beaten. Because of the work of the Canadian Government and others he was recently released and is now trying to raise awareness of the plight of other Falun Gong practitioners currently being held in China's prisons.

I am writing to ask that the Federal Government continue to voice strong opposition to the Chinese Government for their persecution of innocent people. I am enclosing a copy of a letter that I received from Li Zhang, whose husband is currently being held in a prison in Sshanxian Chadian Zhan.

I urge you to consider sanctions against the Chinese government and to ask that the Canadian Government to do everything within its power to demand the release of innocent Falun Gong practitioners from its prisons.

Sincerely

Karen Kraft Sloan. M.P
