One day I was on a bus in Beijing, when an elderly lady and her grandson got on the bus. I gave them my seat. When the bus suddenly stopped the child's head was hit and he kept on crying. I sang the song "Be Saved" to them. Everyone on the bus was quiet and the child stopped crying. One woman sang "Be Saved" together with me and everyone in the bus was listening, some had tears running and some looked at us with tears. I saw their mind: save me, save me, quickly save me. When we almost got to the stop I shouted out loudly "Brothers and sisters, please remember Falun Dafa is good, you will be saved!" I got off the bus with the woman.

Facts of the Persecution

Since July 22, 1999, the Heizuizi Labor Camp in Changchun City, Jilin Province has illegally detained over 3,000 Falun Gong practitioners, and carried out brutal physical and mental tortures. According to incomplete statistics, under the brutal torture, at least eight people have been killed, one person experienced mental disorder, one person became a paraplegic, and over 180 people have various degrees of injuries and some even became disabled. Among the persecuted practitioners, five people were minors, nine people were senior citizens and one person was handicapped. The brutal tortures used on Falun Gong practitioners by the labor camp included: physical torture, electric shock by high-voltage electric batons, brutal beatings, steel needles nailed into fingers, brutal physical abuse, locked up in small wards, handcuffed to a bed, locked up in freezers, brutal force-feeding, and intensive forced labor (continuous work for 16-17 hours). Mental torture includes: group criticism, hanging up name tag for insult, long time exposure to information slandering Falun Gong, 24-hour forced brainwashing under supervision, forced admission to mental hospitals for torture, etc. In addition, the labor camp uses torture on practitioners at will and extorts money from them.

News and Activities Around the World

Falun Gong practitioners in Tainan City, Taiwan continue to stay at the 10 sites to collect signatures for the activity of "Righteous Calling from People - Global Lawsuits against Jiang Zemin" after two-weeks of signature collection against Article 23 for Hong Kong. Although the subjects of the signature collection are different, the heart to clarify the truth and save all beings is the same. Practitioners continue to be on site to clarify the truth.

Radio Free Asia, July 18: Richard Boucher, Spokesman of the U.S. Department of State expressed on Friday afternoon that officials at the US consulate talked to Charles Li over the phone on Wednesday. Charles Li informed them of the abuse he was suffering in prison and that he was forced to go to classes which were against Falun Gong. US Department of State has protested against the imprisonment because of the abuse of Charles Li. The US Embassy in China and the US Consulate in Shanghai also raised this case both formally and informally on several occasions to high ranking officials of the Department of Chinese Foreign Affairs and Jiangsu provincial authorities. Mr. Boucher said that the US Embassy will continue to closely watch this case and raise the issue of the detention of Charles Li and his state of health to the related Chinese officials.

Central News Agency, July 17, Falun Gong practitioners in Canada held a news conference at State Council Hill, launching a nation-wide protest around Canada against the spread of hatred overseas by the Chinese Communist Government. Dai Gongyu, Falun Gong spokesman quoted the report from Washington Post in August, 2001 of the three critical policies of China's persecution toward Falun Gong: brutal torture, high-pressure propaganda, and brainwashing. Dai Gongyu pointed out that one month before the persecution the Peoples Daily, the mouthpiece of the Chinese Communist Party, published 347 articles attacking Falun Gong. TV and radio continuously slander Falun Gong. People in China are brainwashed by lies. Dai Gongyu stated that in the past four years the Chinese Embassy in Canada mailed propaganda materials against Falun Gong to many mayors, city council members, congressmen, and government officials, and put materials with hatred toward Falun Gong at schools, libraries, bookstores and government offices, attacking Falun Gong. Officials of Chinese foreign affairs held exhibitions in the consulates attacking Falun Gong and initiated Chinese community hatred towards Canadian citizens who are Falun Gong practitioners. Therefore Falun Gong practitioners in Canada are appealing to people from all professions to stop the anti-Falun Gong propaganda.
