On July 8, 2003, the news that Ms. Hu Yuehui had passed away shocked me. Resounding in my mind was Teacher's poem from Hong Yi: "A Visit to Yue Fei Temple":

Tragic and heroic history flows by like water,

Upright spirit and loyal soul remain in the world;

The ancient temple left behind is the place of sorrow,

Only the loyal heart illuminates later generations.

Ms. Hu was from Yueyang City, Hunan Province and only 44 years old. At the end of 2000, she was sentenced to two years in the Baimalong Forced Labor Camp. She later died after suffering endless torture and going on numerous hunger strikes during one and a half years of illegal detention.

On March 1, 2001, I met Hu Yuehui in the Fourth Group of the Second Brigade. Back then, a lot of Falun Gong practitioners were being detained every day. The camp was overloaded, so some practitioners were transferred to the Production Group. Each Falun Gong practitioner was monitored by two convicted drug addicts. If we did Falun Gong exercises or recited Dafa articles, they would torture us. In the night, guards would handcuff the determined Dafa practitioners to the highest steel bar on a two story steel bed, and in the daytime, they would handcuff us to the window frames. We firmly believe that it's not a crime to be good people by following the teachings of Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance, and did not cooperate with any orders from the evil. Fellow practitioners encouraged each other and did not give up. Hu Yuehui showed an indomitable will and great courage that we all admired.

One week later, guards collected nine Dafa practitioners that they thought of as "hard to control" to one location for intensive punishment. But while suffering extensive torture, we nine created an environment to do Dafa exercises and study Dafa together, and Hu Yuehui was one of us. Then the guards broke us up again, and Hu Yuehui was sent back to the Fourth Squadron. I still remember during one morning roll call, Dafa practitioners in the Fourth Squadron refused to wear signs, and were shocked by police officers with electric batons. Hu and three other Dafa practitioners did not give up, and were taken to the torture room and were shocked by high voltage electric batons for four hours. They were burned all over their bodies, even their breasts and private parts were not spared. Hu was the most seriously injured and could not walk after the torture. She was carried by criminals who were monitoring her to the clinic for treatment.

On March 24, 2001, groups of police officers with electric batons in hand suddenly appeared and escorted us to the "Intensive Control Group." Hu was detained at the "Intensive Control Group" of the 7.2 Group. Over thirty other Dafa practitioners and I were detained at the "Intensive Control Group" formerly the "drug abstention" building. Over there the rules were strict, punishment and torture were applied at anytime. Being shocked by electric batons was a daily routine; some fellow practitioners fainted from the electric shocks. To protest, Dafa practitioners went on many hunger strikes. But the police officers inserted the electric batons into their mouths, which caused severe swelling. During the force-feeding, they pulled out Dafa practitioners' hair in large clumps.

The forced labor camp tightly controlled any leaks of information about Falun Gong practitioners who went on hunger strikes. Unless it has lasted three to four months and serious physical symptoms appeared, the camp would not consider releasing those practitioners. As I know, Ms. Liu Qingxi from Changsha was on a hunger strike for several months, and was found to be suffering from serious bronchial asthma. She was secretly transferred out of the Baimalong Forced Labor Camp. Ms. Liu Caiyun from Changsha was on a hunger strike for 6 months. She died shortly after she was released. The jail police officers injected Ms. Chen Cujun and Xia Ting from Huaihua, and Ms. Yu Yingzhu from Zhuzhou with drugs that damage the central nervous systems during their hunger strikes. The injections caused serious memory loss to Chen Cujun and Xia Ting. Xia Ting could only remember very simply things. She was left unable to walk steadily, and her upper back and shoulders were deformed. Under such cruel torture, our fellow Dafa practitioners walked through these calamities with their righteous belief in Dafa and Teacher.

The last time I met with Hu Yuehui was at the door of the clinic. Police officers took turns torturing her, but she was as firm as steel. Since she went on a hunger strike, she was sent to the clinic to have an infusion. She greeted me happily from far away. Her kind voice still resounds in my ears. Since we were tightly monitored, it's a pity that we were not able to talk much.

Since then, news of her was frequently heard. "This Hu Yuehui has a strong will and is admirable. She is on the verge of death from the torture, but still does not give up the practice." "Hu Yuehui is still on a hunger strike, I saw her in the clinic." "Aunt Hu is so kind, she doesn't have much money, but has saved her money for me to treat my foot disease." "Hu Yuehui was force-fed." "A tube was inserted in Hu Yuehui's stomach and was not removed. After several days, she pulled it out and it was full of blood." "Hu Yuehui was on a hunger strike for eight months and was sent to the hospital outside of the camp. Doctors are not able to save her." "Baimalong camp asked her family to pick her up and take her home, but they refused. They are afraid that she will die quickly if she is brought back home!"

For one and a half years, under the endless torment and torture, she never yielded. She aroused people from a sleeping state by risking her life, and resisted the most vicious persecution in history organized by the Jiang regime. My feeling is beyond language; I just want to say, "My dear fellow practitioner and the good disciple of our Teacher, have a good journey! Your splendor has shocked people's hearts, and has awakened kindness in many people."
