(Clearwisdom.net) Shandong Province Women’s Prison is located at 93 Industrial South Road in Jinan City. A sign saying “Xingye Corp Limited” was erected at the front of the building to disguise the true nature of the establishment. Guards at the prison exploit prison inmates and subject them to forced labor. The prison is divided into ten production cells, and each cell or group has an extremely heavy workload. Inmates have intensive work schedules and are forced to work for long hours. They normally don’t have any free time, with lunch break being only five or ten minutes. Guards verbally abuse inmates and punish those who can’t complete their assigned tasks, as less money is earned for the prison if the quotas aren't met. Production from each cell normally earns the prison about 500,000 yuan per year, and is never less than 300,000 yuan. Even though the work is very profitable, inmates are given very basic food to eat and are not paid for their work.

There are about 200 Falun Gong practitioners held in a special “training center,” which was established to persecute practitioners. The cells are isolated and connected to the solitary confinement area and the prison hospital. Closed circuit cameras are in operation and special guards and inmates are on duty there. They try to force practitioners to renounce their belief through brainwashing techniques, physical torture and force feeding. Some practitioners are also forcibly injected with unknown drugs.

In February 2011, three practitioners were taken to the training center for intensive persecution. Ms. Zhou Shuchun was one of them. When she went on a hunger strike to protest her treatment, she was dragged to the hospital and was force fed every day. She became emaciated and she was hardly recognizable.

Torture re-enactment: Forced feeding

A practitioner was taken to the prison hospital in March 2011 after being severely tortured. In order to prevent her from speaking about the treatment she received, two inmates from the training center were sent to the hospital to monitor her for more than a month. Another practitioner who nearly died as a result of torture was carried to the hospital on a stretcher on the morning of March 13. Prison guard Xue Yanqin also went along to monitor her.

At 11 a.m. on April 10, an elderly, gray-haired practitioner who had recently been taken to the training center was choked while her arms were twisted behind her back. She was forcibly taken to the hospital to have a physical examination. When she shouted out, “Falun Dafa is good” and “Falun Dafa is a righteous Fa,” her mouth was quickly covered. At 2 p.m. she was taken to a dark, damp solitary confinement cell. There is no natural light in the cell all year round and there is only one dim light bulb there. She had eat and use the toilet in the confined cell, and sleep on the concrete floor with only a thin blanket to cover her.

Two practitioners were tortured on the morning of April 14. As a result, one of them was not able to stand up straight. The other practitioner couldn’t straighten up from the waist and her legs were badly twisted. At 5 p.m. on April 16, another practitioner from the training center was taken to the hospital.

Practitioners in the prison usually end up traumatized and physically damaged after being subjected to cruel torture methods. The following are a few examples:

1. Ms. Zhang Baohuan was taken to the training center on August 20, 2008. Nine inmates, including Zhu Huifeng from Qingdao and Liu Qian from Feicheng in Taian, pushed her against a wall. Liu cursed at her loudly while she was disorientated, and then slapped her face with a pair of shoes. When Liu became tired, she had inmates Liu Xiuyun and Duan Hongli, both from Rizhao, continue to beat and verbally abuse her. Liu yelled at Ms. Zhang, saying: “Before you came here, Xue Yanqin learned all about you and knows how to deal with you.”

Ms. Zhang remained steadfast in her belief and refused to write a guarantee statement to denounce Falun Gong. The guards then took her to a balcony and forced her to stand there for a very long time. They then took her outside and forced her to stay there until the early hours of the morning. She was taken outside again later in the morning and was not allowed back in until midnight. They did this for three consecutive days. Because Ms. Zhang still refused to renounce her belief, they put her into a so-called “study room.” Her mouth was covered and she was beaten. When some of her teeth became dislodged, she was forced to swallow them. They continued to beat her for three more days.

The so-called study room is actually a solitary confinement cell. Practitioners are locked in a dark room where the doors and windows are covered with thick black cloth. Practitioners were not allowed contact with anyone, and the guards force them to watch TV programs that slander Falun Gong, including the staged Tiananmen Square self-immolation. Practitioners are then forced to write reports to slander Dafa and Master. If practitioners refuse, they are beaten and tortured.

When practitioners are taken to the training center, they are brutally beaten and forced to write guarantee statements. If practitioners refuse, they are deprived of sleep, not allowed to wash or go to the toilet, and are made to stand for long periods of time. If practitioners still refuse to cooperate, several inmates try to pressure them into writing the statements. They stab practitioners’ hands with ball point pens, pinch their bodies, hit them in their private parts and ribs, drag them by the hair and smash theirs heads against metal cabinets.

2. Ms. Cai Ying was taken to the training center in September 2008. She refused to renounce her belief and write the guarantee statements. Liu Qian, Chen Min from Rizhao and Li Shuangyu from Zhibo beat and cursed at her. One day, Li suddenly became enraged and dragged Ms. Cai by the hair and beat and cursed at her profusely. Li didn’t allow Ms. Cai to sleep and forced her to stand for a very long time. Chen Min then hit Ms. Cai on her legs and ordered other practitioners to beat her as well. When the practitioners refused, Liu verbally abused them. When Ms. Cai ate a little slowly, Wang Xiaoran from Jinan and Zhang Shoulan from Mouping in Yantai swore at her and didn’t allow her to wash her eating bowl. Wang and an inmate on duty didn’t allow Ms. Cai to use the toilet. Practitioner Wei from Jiaozhou was locked in solitary confinement for five or six days and was not allowed to go to the toilet. She had to relieve herself in her pants. She could not stand the inhumane treatment and eventually complied with the guards' demands.

3. Agents from the local 610 Office arrested Ms. Bi Jianhong from Yantai on October 15, 2006 and sentenced her to 12 years in prison. She was tortured in the training center for a long time. Ms. Bi was often punched and kicked, and deprived of sleep. She was forced to stand naked on the balcony in the winter until she fell unconscious. Ms. Bi went on a hunger strike to protest the harsh treatment, and was force-fed for more than three months. Unidentified drugs were put into her food, giving her severe stomachaches. Ms. Bi went on a hunger strike for the second time in September 2008. Over half a dozen inmates dragged her to a storage room and beat her for three nights. As a result, she was left crippled and she could hardly see.

Ms. Bi was tortured so severely in November 2009 that she nearly died. Prison officials quickly released her to avoid taking any responsibility if she died. After she recovered, she was reported to the police when she was seen distributing truth-clarifying materials. Guards from Jinan Women's Prison arrested her on New Year's day 2011, and took her to the prison.

When Ms. Bi was taken to the training center, Xue Yanqin, Xu Yumei and Sun Xiaoli instigated inmates to severely torture her. She went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution and was force-fed until she was close to death. She was taken to the prison hospital, where she was injected with unknown drugs and, as a result, is unable to walk. On January 26, her family members went to see her, but could hardly recognize her. After she recovered slightly, they started to persecute her again. Ms. Bi continued her hunger strike. On March 17, prison authorities made an unexpected phone call to her family members informing them that she was unwell. Her family immediately went to see her and found that almost all of her organs had failed and she was in critical condition.

Her mother, Wang Yanqin, also a practitioner, wrote to the local government departments and demanded an end to the torture of her daughter. When she went to the prison to see her daughter, she was threatened and intimidated by the guards.

4. Ms. Zou Aixia from Qingdao was taken to the prison in 2008. She was tortured, verbally abused and beaten constantly. Sometimes she was not given any food to eat. She refused to comply with the guards' demands. After two years of persecution there, she became very frail and fainted often. The prison doctor examined her and said that she had very little blood in her body. To avoid taking responsibility for her death, prison authorities took her to her hometown in Qingdao by ambulance.

5. Ms. Wang Haiqing from Anqiu had problems with her lower limbs when she was taken to the training center. Xue instigated Qiu Xiuxin to persecute her. Qiu didn't allow Ms. Wang to use hot water for washing, and she was only allowed to sleep on the floor. She was not given a coat or blanket during the winter time and was only allowed to wear a thin shirt. She was also not allowed to change her underwear. If anyone was sympathetic towards her or wanted to help her, they would be verbally abused. Ms. Wang is still being persecuted in the training center and remains determined not to renounce her belief.

6. Ms. Liu Qingmei from Anqiu refused to write the guarantee statement in the training center, and was severely beaten. She wasn’t allowed to sleep or go to the toilet, and the prison guards continually intimidate her.

Sources have indicated that there are still two hundred practitioners being held in the training center. These stories of persecution are only a small fraction of the crimes that take place in the prison.

A new prison is currently being built at the border of Licheng and Zhangqiu, about thirty kilometers southeast of Jinan. A special independent building was built for the training center, and they plan to send all Falun Gong practitioners from each cell there and to intensify their persecution. They planned to move into the new building by the end of 2011.
