(Minghui.org) I knew policeman “S” before the persecution of Falun Dafa started in 1999, which was when I was employed at my prior workplace. He worked in a township police station. I noticed then that he was a fairly faithful person, and he kept his promises almost every time. I maintained a friendly relationship with him, but I also kept a distance.

Kindness and Sympathy in His Eyes

I was arrested on October 25, 1999, when I appealed for Falun Dafa in Beijing. I was escorted back to the local police station, and by then S was already the head of the police station.

When he saw me, we briefly made eye contact. I was able to see kindness and sympathy in his eyes. Yet he quickly turned around to look at the others around him and shouted, "Great work, my heroes!" He was sturdy with a loud voice. That was the first time I saw him after the persecution started.

He Provided Protection for My Wife

After I was released from the labor camp, I saw him for a second time. At that time many practitioners in a neighboring province were arrested, and my wife was implicated. The police station in a neighboring province sent officers to our local police station and wanted to arrest my wife. S said, "We are also looking for this person (my wife). We need to keep her here, so you can't take her away.” He was apparently protecting my wife.

My wife was detained locally for 15 days. I called S on the 14th day of my wife’s detention and asked when I could take her home. In the phone conversation, I called him “big brother” (a positive, familial term in China). He went to check on my wife’s case and called me back. He asked me, "Can you come to my office for a moment? Your wife will be sent here soon.”

So my child and I went to his office. My wife arrived shortly after, and S closed his office door and told us in a low voice to be more careful about our safety. While he was talking, a young officer came in. At that time, he raised his voice and said in pretense, "I am giving you a break this time. But you may not be this lucky next time."

Respecting My Wife’s Deeds in Prison

After my wife was released from a seven-year imprisonment, I met S a third time. He asked a practitioner (a family member of a police officer) to contact my wife and me and asked to meet us in private. At that time he was captain of our local domestic security division. Although the practitioner told us that she had already explained the facts about Falun Dafa to him, and that he had already quit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its affiliated organizations, my wife and I still discussed about whether to see him. We finally decided to meet with him.

We went to the practitioner’s home at the appointed time. S arrived soon after. He took the initiative to shake hands with us. In greeting us, he referred to himself as "big brother." He asked us if we had any difficulties and told us he could help us. He maintained his original style and talked with a sincere attitude. He said with sighs, "For such a small woman like her (referring to my wife), coming out of the prison this way after being imprisoned for seven years—is she an ordinary person? Isn’t she a divine being?”

My wife firmly believes in Dafa. In the prison she created a very good environment and was even able to provide some help and support to other persecuted practitioners. It seemed that S knew about her situation.

Protecting Practitioners

S reminded us not to trust the people around us too easily, indicating that some people were arranged to be around us in order to watch us. He then pointed to the phone. “Things like this are the most unsafe,” he said. "And I will ask you for your help later on if something happens (meaning something related to Falun Dafa practitioners). There is nothing wrong with Falun Dafa. Your big brother can now have the final say, and I can help you.”

Before leaving, he held my hand and said, "I, your big brother, am not a bad person."

After our contact, I noticed how he provided protection to practitioners. When some practitioners were reported to the police while telling people about Falun Dafa and the persecution, he asked his police to turn the sirens on when they drove to the scene so practitioners could hear the sirens and quickly leave. When practitioners were taken to the police station, he held back the cases and did not report them to his superiors. As such, the majority of the practitioners were able to return home safely within a few hours, and others returned home within one or two days.

This situation continued for five years until S retired from his position as captain of the domestic security division. During this five-year period, none of our local practitioners were sent to the labor camp or to the prison.

Helped Us in Our Daily Lives

S also did his best to help our family in our daily lives while we were persecuted. My wife and I were deprived of employment, and we had to open two stores to make a living. He often introduced his friends to our stores to give us more business. When my daughter was taking the university entrance exam, he offered to help us, saying that he could ask friends to arrange a good school for my daughter. We politely turned down his offer.

During the Chinese New Year holiday season, he came to our stores and gave my daughter several thousand yuan. He said the money was from the fund that the police department used to help the poor, and that our lives were difficult. He wanted us to save the money for our daughter’s education. We, in turn, gave all the money to the materials production center so he could accumulate virtue. We also bought some gifts in return with our own money and treated him as our friend. We had many similar interactions between us.

He Asked Others Not to Do Evil

I also heard from others that S once told the deputy chief of the police department, who was in charge of persecuting Falun Dafa, to be mindful of how he treated practitioners. "Treating Falun Dafa practitioners kindly is treating yourself kindly!" he said. He looked down on this deputy chief; he said the deputy chief was trying to get a promotion by persecuting Falun Dafa practitioners.

During the years of the CCP’s desperate persecution of Dafa and Dafa practitioners, there have been good people with a conscience and who have understood what is good and what is evil. S is one of them.
