Around January 24, 2008, numerous Falun Gong practitioners from Beijing were arrested and their homes were ransacked. With the 2008 Olympics coming, the Chinese Communist Party still persecutes and arrests Falun Gong practitioners on a large scale.

Feb. 19

Ms. Liu Guifu was arrested five times in the past years for practicing Falun Gong. She was again sentenced to forced labor camp when she was arrested the fifth time. The labor camp even tried to force her husband to divorce her. Her recounts of her suffering in the labor camp exposed the means the labor camp used to torture Falun Gong practitioners and to hide the crimes the labor camp committed.

Feb. 20

Mr Xu is currently imprisoned in Guangyuan Prison. His family is not allowed to visit him and is alarmed about reports he is being tortured and in very bad condition. This is the latest in a history of severe persecution of Mr. Xu and members of his family.

Feb. 21

Mr Chen had been active in Falun Gong activities in Hong Kong where they are legal. He was arrested while visiting his father in mainland China. The charges involved a 2005 case of distributing blacklisted books for which someone else had already been detained. His famuly believes this is an attempt to suppress Falun Gong activities in Hong Kong despite, "One country, two systems."

Wang Bo and her family, noted Falun Gong practitioners, have been used in propaganda films and articles where they supposedly give up and denounce Falun Gong. After Wang Bo managed to get a report published exposing such articles as lies, she and her mother have been imprisoned again.

Feb. 22

This is a major article based on a letter Zhang Lianying wrote to the Deputy Chairman of the European Parliament, Mr. Edward McMillan-Scott, and her testimony at the Hearing on Human Rights in China held on November 26, 2007, by the European Parliament. Zhang Lianying gives a moving account of her imprisonment and torture in China for being a Falun Gong practitioner. She shows how her experience is part of a much larger pattern extending throughout China where, unfortunately, many victims are unable to tell their story.

Arrested in January 2008, Ms. Lu has been tortured into a critical state, but the authorites will not respond to her family's request for a release for medical attention.
